People talk like Jersey is trash, there're fantastic locations in jersey, and they also have city life in Manhattan, it's very close from Jesery. I'm moving right outta Staten Island to Jersey after I graduate

Now back to the Vesey talks I believe he'll sign with the Rangers. Yep, said it.

Its literally the only thing that most Devils and Raners from NJ agree on, that New Jersey is a really nice state.

I hope we can land him. I don't expect much out of him but the Devils are still in a position of needing to stockpile as much as they can.

why would he sign with the Rangers when they are only a few miles away from that garbage city of New Jersey? Guilty by association.

Everyone realizes half the partners at Goldman Sachs live in New Jersey? I'm from Connecticut but there are some really nice areas in NJ within 30 minutes drive from The Rock. Summit is really nice with a great restaurant scene and schools.
Jersey Shore is an hour away.

Look, like I said, I'm from Connecticut and typically the first to pile on NJ but there are some really nice places to live in NJ.

I had no idea he was such good friends with Eichel. With that info and Buffalo having all this time as well as trading assets just to talk with him, showing they really want him, I think he sticks there. They are an up and coming team and he has a great shot at top 6 minutes immediately.

Vesey-Eichel-Fasching could develop together as a group. Never underestimate the power of a really good friend and being able to go through the rigors of being young in the NHL or any other tough situation together.

Yeah I wasn't on the beach I was on a jetty fishing . Now I am near the beach in Atlantic Highlands with a beer while talking about Vesey. Its a good day.

Having that beer at "On The Deck"? I think I know that view.

For anyone questioning NJ, it's an amazing state to live in, except for the costs. But you have all seasons and multiple eco-systems. You can go from the ocean one day to hiking mountains the next, go fishing at a lake after that, surf in summer and snowboard in winter, go to suburbs, tons of farmland to pick fresh fruit and veggies and then be in a major city within 40 minutes.

3 of the top 10 richest counties in USA and Monmouth County(close to the picture quoted and not one of the 3 in the top 10) is home to some of the biggest celebrities in the world like Joe Pesci, Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston(when alive), John Stewart, Greg Anthony, Geraldo, Queen Latifah, Todd Frazier and a bunch of other sports entities that play in the state or even out of the state.

If not for the high expenses it would be perfect.

What if Vesey signed with Philadelphia, he'd still live in New Jersey, probably Voorhees Twp in southern New Jersey.

Born and raised in NJ (Hunterdon County represent!) but currently live in Upstate NY (looking to move downstate)

It's really nice. I wish we could detach South Jersey, but that's another topic.

Fact of the matter is, should Vesey decide he wants to play for the Devils, he has plenty of nice options to choose from for living. He'll probably want to live in Hoboken, near the other guys. Hoboken is a very nice city. Quick access to NYC. And Newark is not nearly as big of a ****hole as people think it is.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

T-minus a little less than 2 hours until he hits the market.

If not for the high expenses it would be perfect.

Dear lord, I feel ya.

The real upstate NY? Or the one 30 min north of the city :)? That's a whole nother discussion anyways, and no Buffalo isnt upstate. Regardless, gut says he picks Boston, and he announces his decision thru a Players Tribune article..

I wish we could detach from North Jersey so the feeling is mutual...

Upstate as in Troy. So, real upstate!

I think wherever he signs, there will be plenty of attractive places for him to live. I honestly think his living arrangements are a slightly moot point. The teams and the city they're directly in are more important than where he's going to get an apartment.

Bout an hour north of ya, i'll let Troy pass as upstate. every team offers a unique setting where he can live. No one knows what he wants. But i'll tell you he wont be living in the slums.

He's about to get a bonus-laden deal worth at least $800,000 a year and will be hoping to make some major bucks in two years.

Money's, or proper housing affordability's, not one of his concerns right now.

After taxes and escrow that might be enough to afford a starter home in Toronto by the end of the three years. So yeah, he's gonna need a mortgage.

Somewhere like Pittsburgh though, he'd be able to buy a veritable castle after his first season.

But at least it's not Vancouver or San Jose.

That is not how the MLB draft works. players 18 do not leave the draft. what happens is player gets drafter and they may have a scholarship to a school. team offers them money then player decides.

MLB team loses their rights and the players reenter the draft in their junior year.

As far as I know the team drafting a player who goes to college do not get a comp pick in a later draft....so they blow a 1st on nothing.

To add on this....NBA and NFL --it is a minor league system.

For MLB players generally it doesnt matter much either way similar to hockey. Some players bust and some players value increases.

MLB teams having at least 4 minor league teams has a long draft so one pick doesnt make or break a team. IF you notice teams generally dont rely on a high 1st round pick as you see in the other three sports. in basbal 1st round picks even high ones are so hit and miss.

Sure---you could have a draft where players declare if they want to be eligible at 18. IF not they go to college on scholarship then the NHL will then have college players drafted like baseball after their junior year (or when the are 21--like how they are 8 in the draft now) then have their rights for 2 years. Thus that kills the college UFA track unless the player defereed to a latter college entry.

Yes you do get a comp pick for an unsigned 1st rounder, unsigned 2nd rounders get comp picks too. Not sure about the 3rd round, I can't remember.

and going to college is sorta of like time in the minor leagues, if you get drafted out of high school it often takes you 4 or 5 years or more to make it through the system, if you go to college you're there 3 years, then once you get drafted again you can make it to the majors in 2 or 3 sometimes.

You don't go straight to the majors but you go to a higher level than guys out of high school do, and you can catch up to guys in your high school class as far as when you reach the majors.

I don't know if either system is better, though I wish a college player didn't have the option to go to UFA the summer after his senior year. Either give the drafting team rights for 5 years, or make the player re-enter the draft with the drafting team having rights for 1 year.

CHL players have the re-enter, so even if they go back for their overage year they've really got nowhere to go for 1 post CHL year unless they waste a year in Europe.

It just seems off to allow a player to do what they planned on doing anyway(graduate) and then UFA. There should be a consequence for holding out, like OK you can not sign but you have to find somewhere to play your 1st post senior year because someone still has your rights like a CHL player has to find somewhere else to play if they don't sign.

Quick question... with Nashville trading the rights of JV away would that mean that BUF then gets the compensatory pick? My first guess would be yes they would, otherwise they end up with the 3rd they got in the trade as well as a comp. pick. As I said though just a guess, do you know for sure either way?

Edit: Or does the trade negate the comp. pick all together?

I was about to comment on this being inaccurate, but this is actually really true. Of the teams that have been rumored to be in on Vesey (so Pittsburgh, Chicago, New Jersey, NYI, NYR, Buffalo, Toronto and Boston), only Buffalo is cheaper than Pittsburgh, while Chicago, Newark, New York, Boston and Toronto vary from 2x as expensive to an astonishing 5.33x as expensive for Boston and 6.11x as expensive for NYC.
