He has had his whole life to think about who he wants to play for.

Why are you so upset about this?

It wasn't his decision that the rules in place don't let him sign until August 16th.

He can't even talk to the other teams until that day, so why would he rush his decisions? How many adults with careers would rush these big decisions? lol

If 5 or 6 organizations are on your list, you need to weigh the options. Sounds like a smart man to me.

To think about it, yes, but he's only been allowed to have an agent since the spring, and technically hasn't had a chance to talk to any team (except NAS and BUFF) yet.

For people complaining about him deciding to not sign with NAS, do you complain when a team draft a player and then trades his rights? Do you complain when a team drafts a player than chooses not to sign him? Are those "loopholes" or are those just things that teams are allowed to do if it's in their own best interest?

On the other side of the coin, if I were the sick one and my son was going to sign with a team just to stay near me, I'd give him a good stern talking to and say ABSOLUTELY NOT. Pick where you want to be based on you, not me.

My dad did the same with me. Told me to get the F out of town. 8 years later he is still kicking after having "12 months to live". So I certainly hear where you are coming from.

I think it's perfectly in his right to do this because it's in the CBA. Lets be honest though it is a pretty dumb rule. I think any team and fans would feel pretty burned if one of their better prospects did this. Anyone who is attacking his character because of this is wrong; however, it's still a weird rule to have.

Again, do you think it's weird that a team can draft a player, the player wants to sign, but the team decides not to and after 2 years he goes back into the draft?

What would be weird would be to give one party the power to walk away from a deal but nor the other party.

If he signs in Torornto things will get pretty entertaining.

No kidding.

Leafs Nation would be ecstatic over two things: signing Vesey, and making everyone else hate the Leafs even more.

Personally, I take the Leafs-hate as a compliment to the strength and important of the franchise. Even tough the leafs have not won a championship in nearly 50 years, they still command an excessive amount of attention. It's like Harold Ballard said: There's no such thing as bad publicity.

It would hurt if the Leafs signed Vesey and no-one took any notice.

However, I would be very, very surprised if the Leafs sign Vesey. I just don't see that happening. Too many other more attractive destinations.

the MLB does it right and the NHL has it wrong. Quit allowing teams to hold rights to players who are in college. If a player states he is going to college, said player does not get drafted.

Vesey's got a lot of stuff to balance like how close each team is to winning a cup, what city he wants to live in, what line he'll play on with his new team, what other rookies each team has that have contracts expiring at the same time, and where he can expect to maximize his points output to maximize his second contract. I legitimately don't think he has much idea beyond his list of 5-6 teams at this point, and I don't expect him to make a quick decision. Anyone claiming "he has it down to just these two teams now" on Twitter I'm pretty much going to disregard as BS until he makes his decision.

The difference is that MLB has an elaborate deep minor league farm system. So going to college does nothing to boost a prospect.

For the NHL, NFL, and NBA, college is sort of like a de facto minor league, so it makes sense that teams keep their rights because many of those players fit right into the NHL and don't even go to the AHL.
