Both Lou before coming here and the Leafs before his arrival were very good at recruiting NCAA talent and/or having good ties with the NCAA.

Wonder if that plays out here.

if the leafs get him that would be kind of cool. I don't know where he will fit and we have a lot of other young guys coming up so it may not be as attractive a destination as vesey thinks. Personally if we can't sign him i really want him go to the rags. they don't have a lot of young talent and could use a player like him. Him and Buch would be two very good rookies who could play on the third line and help revamp the rangers team. Always liked the rags, and think he would do well in the big apple.

On the contrary if you were going to being offered the exact same amount of money and opportunity by every team in the league except 1 sweetened the deal and agreed to give your dad a job wouldn't you want to help your family?

All i know is that i personally put family above all else.

So staying close to your sick father who works in Boston for the Leafs?

I personally wouldn't want to sign with a team my dad works for. Say your dad gets the boot and it ended ugly, I know I would want out if it was my father. The other thing is that Toronto isn't exactly driving distance and seems that being close to Boston was brought up by Vesey. The other thing, Toronto is a great city and maybe the best hockey town, however, you'er under the microscope and with their tax bracket being higher than NY/NY is dam scary.

 Me either....... Remember when Sutter traded his own son after he had an issue in a bar? you can bet he was traded so Sutter could avoid allegations of nepotism. lol

I honestly think this is the best trade we could have hoped for.

To the Leafs: Jimmy Vesey

To the Sabres: -3rd round pick

All ESPN did was ask Lebron where Vesey was going to sign. ESPN doesn't have any hockey sources /sarcasm

I love how every time a team is out, another team is back in, only to be followed by the team returning and dropping somebody else off the list. I can't see how his list has even changed. He can't really speak to other GM's yet so I'm sure he hasn't eliminated any teams on his "Short" long list.

Other tidbits from that ESPN article:

Vesey and his agents, Peter Fish and Peter Donatelli, will conduct interviews with teams in Boston on Tuesday and Wednesday. A decision is expected by the end of business hours on Friday at the latest, sources tell ESPN.com.

The New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs are strong contenders as Vesey, who played for Harvard, prepares for free agency, sources said. The Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins are also on that list.

On the other side of the coin, if I were the sick one and my son was going to sign with a team just to stay near me, I'd give him a good stern talking to and say ABSOLUTELY NOT. Pick where you want to be based on you, not me.

Key word: Possibly.

Have you ever seen a dynasty? Those teams have a long, long, long, long way to go before they can even be mentioned in the same breathe as a team like the Islanders dynasty. Teams like that were better than everyone in the league by a pretty good margin for a few years in a row, I just think that even bring that up as any kind of selling point is a little bit extreme. I don't even think it is possible for a team to be a dynasty with the salary cap.

IF he signs in Toronto, do you think a team will file tampering charges?

If he signs in Torornto things will get pretty entertaining.

Indeed, he will be expected to be a PPG player right off the bat which isn't going to happen and if the Leafs fail again he will find himself under the microscope like Kessel.

If I was in his position I wouldn't even consider Toronto for the off ice and media reasons.

It's much better in TO since Lou and Babcock took over.

As the poster stated above, things are being done quite differently in Toronto these days.

He would be under less pressure in Toronto than in most other places. He'll be a story because we signed him, but fans watching the youth on the team will have their eyes on Matthews, Marner, and Nylander ahead of Vesey. Being signed and expected to be Toews's left-winger or Crosby's winger is probably more immediate pressure than he would get here.

Much better? I highly doubt that.

It seems better because the media finally accepted losing...but see how Reimer or Dion felt last year; it was the same IMO.

Could not disagree more. The very fact that we didn't hear about Phaneuf being shoped around clearly shows how this management group feels towards the media.

Disagree here.

Nothing is leaked to the media anymore, Babcock, Lou etc. will not let the media outstay their welcome and bully/antagonize players like they did with Kessel. Hell, young players go through seminars in Rookie camp on how to handle the media, how to speak to them etc. They're working to make Toronto a more safe and comfortable place to play. They don't care what the media says or wants.

Totally agree.

I really hope he signs with some completely off the radar team. Would make this whole thing a lot more entertaining.

Boston is off the radar at this point so you will be getting your wish

Maybe if he was the main piece of a rebuild, but this is nothing like the current case.

Already, he'll be less scrutinized than Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly in terms of future building blocks.

In terms of the City itself, there are far more discussed members of the team overall. I.E Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Rielly, Kadri, Babcock, Shanahan etc.

Vesey won't even be allowed to talk to the media as a rookie.

In fact, I'd argue most casual fans don't even know who Vesey is.

Vesey is going to be scrutinized no matter where he signs because of all this hoopla surrounding him. People are going to be anxious to see if he lives up to all the hype.

It's a little late to say he would prefer to be under the radar.
