All Encompassing Coaching and Glen Cigar Thread Part V

As much as I've supported Torts over the years, his time here is done. He has simply lost this team and his style of coaching doesn't fit this roster.

Alain Vigneault, please.

Would not mind Boucher. He ran a trap in Tampa, but still managed to get alot out of his offense. Imagine what he would do with a good D-corps and Lundqvist back there.

That and he'd tap into the offensive potential we have, Torts system is too restrictive on forwards IMO.

Positional players do not include goaltenders. McDonagh is very, very good. Hes not elite. Hate to break the truth to you.

He just held the hottest goal scorer in the league to 1 goal over 7 games and sent him into the longest point scoring drought of his career. To think he's not elite is asinine. Is he an offensive stalwart? No, but he IS elite defensively.

Does everyone saying fire him honestly think any other coach would coach this team further than this with Staal, Clowe, Stralman and Powe injured and Richards completely useless?

I just dont know how you or anyone else could look at this roster and think they shouldve went any further.

Laughable.

You realize the main reason we suck is because of Torts' collapsing, no offense, ****** powerplay system?

We have offensive talent. We need to USE it. We don't NEED to play defensive collapsing hockey all game, we have the best goalie in the world.

I would bet you they would looked more competitive in the bruins series. I can also say that series doesn't go 7 games against Washington.

I see the same systemic problems for the past 3 years with Torts. No improvement in our breakout/transitions(the worst in the NHL hands down). A befuddling collapsing zone D. Offensive cycling schemes that were created on a hand napkin.

You're delusional. Stepan and Brassard as #1 and 2 centers and no depth isnt going to cut it.

Potentially yes, we still managed to get this far without those players playing a very defensive system.

Exactly.

What is? Richards in the press box?

Listening to Hank's postgame interview.
You can tell how angry he is with the team's lack of effort.

I don't think any team that gets to the second round sucks honestly, so no, I guess I don't realize that. The team was missing a lot of important pieces and they lost to a better opponent. That's not a coaching problem IMO.

Also, I really suspect that if they played this mythic "open" system, Hank wouldn't have the same type of success, and after a week or two of him getting hung out to dry 2 on 1 the same people would be yelling about how disrespectful it is to him etc. etc. etc.

Yuck. Boucher is a much better choice.

That and he'd tap into the offensive potential we have, Torts system is too restrictive on forwards IMO.

I don't think it's that it's restrictive, he lets the forwards do what they want in the offensive zone, he just doesn't know how to influence creativity in the neutral zone and doesn't tell them what to do. Look at one of his 24/7 clips. He's just yelling and screaming at them, but he doesn't tell them what exactly to correct or what adjustments to make. Just "be stiffer on D" and "We're better than this." No insight into the game what-so-ever.

We have offensive talent? lol.

Hagelin, Brassard, Callahan and Kreider are top 6 players. None of those guys would make the Bruins and Penguins top 6.

I am happy with Torts to make good use out of this inept roster. There is no way in hell they should've beaten the Caps.

Uhh yeah I think they would over Dupuis and Kunitz they'd be all stars along Sid and Geno as well.

The same Dupuis who has been a top 20 ES producer the past few seasons and the same Kunitz who was 7th in league scoring and was a top line guy for two SC winning teams?

Though my blame lies more with Sather for the construction of a team that quite honestly isn't as good as most people think it should be, Torts time has come and gone. This team needs a fresh perspective and philosophy. The PP alone, irregardless of the roster should never be that bad and that alone is a fire worthy offense. He definitely isn't a bad of a coach that these boards make him out to be but this team definitely stopped responding to the "Torts way."

rangers would have been out of playoffs for several seasons if not for lundqvist. not even last year, it was just supreme year for henrik. They play like ****.

I've never looked back at a season the day it ends and been more disgusted than this. This season was a nightmare. So often I found myself pissed at the team for so many reasons. We need to change things. We simply wont win this way. Torts, OUT. Richards, OUT. Hamrlik, needless to say, can go **** himself.

Sign some real depth. No Haleys or Newburys or Hamrliks when we've got people injured. I want to see a coach who can run some OFFENSE, because that's been our main problem for a number of years now.

When will the Torts experiment end?

He isn't to blame for everything wrong with this team but I am so sick of this guy already. How long is he going to be here?

I guarantee you if our PP operates even at 13% (Which is incredibly average if not bad,) we win Washington in 5 and find a way to win the Boston series.

Does everyone saying fire him honestly think any other coach would coach this team further than this with Staal, Clowe, Stralman and Powe injured and Richards completely useless?

Yes. Staal, Stralman and Powe are defensive players. Defense is NOT our problem. Would it help? Yes, but it's not our problem.

You're delusional. Stepan and Brassard as #1 and 2 centers and no depth isnt going to cut it.

Stepan was just one of the best defensive centers while putting up close a PPG clip this year wasn't he? You can argue he wasn't as good offensively in the playoffs.... OK fine. But Brassard was a PPG in playoffs. Centers that have more points in the playoffs so far: Malkin, Crosby, Krejci. Stepan was T3 in GWG in the playoffs. Not to mention his clutch steal from Chara in game 4. Was Bergeron/Krejci really that much better this series?

Let's not gloss over the fact that Torts has had input as to who Sather should sign, as well as who he allowed to play and who he wanted gone.
