Torts would be an assistant coach I'd love to have. I just hate having him run the show :(

I did like him sticking up for Richards though. I love when he sticks up for his boys, like he did with Redden towards Brooksie a while back.

Agreed about him sticking up for his players. Everyone rags on him for losing his cool with Brooks, but IMO, that was him standing up for a guy who deserved it, at least in that specific case.

LOVE his decision to take Nash off Brassard's line in the 2nd and 3rd period tonight whether he meant to do it or not. Get Brassard away from Chara and he's right back on the scoresheet. No coincidence. Been saying it since Game 1.

Stepan can deal with being out there against Chara and Bergeron every shift. Brassard not so much. And we need to give this guy every opportunity to keep up his play.

Say all you want about Tortorella, but it's pretty obvious that the players on this team haven't quit on their coach. If the players wanted to send a message, they wouldn't have managed to suck it up and hold on until Boston finally cracked a little. This lockout excuse for a season hasn't been kind to this team and the turnover of so many players killed team chemistry. But, for tonight at least, they fought back.

You know, it occurred to me that, after the 1st period we watched tonight, giving up on Tortorella was exactly what was happening.

But, they sucked it up. And got a crazy goal that ultimately gave them the chance to come back and win the game.

Tortorella isn't getting fired.

Yeah. Whether or not that was about Tortorella, or it was about pride in themselves, or what, it doesn't really matter.

I don't think he was getting fired even if we did get swept.

Tonight's game echo'd how dumb torts is.

He finally compiled a 4th line.

He finally got Kreider w talented line mates.

And most of all he finally got Nash back with Stepan.

The fact that he only realized these things when it was "change everything & hope" mode shows he's been near clueless IMO.

More like stubborn.
I'm sick of Tortorella's 'my way'. Stupid line juggling to infinity,

Screw that. it led to nothing. Even when the obvious stared him the face this season, he had to be a tinkerer.
Silly crap.

Exactly. The only hockey this team knows how to play is disparate hockey. Which is almost counter intuitive when the goal of being a successful team is to not put yourself in that position to often. I don't think there is a team in the league that if playing well couldn't take us to at least 6 games. We don't know how to dominate and beating teams by grinding and grinding just to get to a coin flip isn't going to win a Stanley cup. Chances of winning 4 of those in a row is slim. The pens dominate games frequentlu and therefore it's not a fair coin. The skew it to their favor.

Boyle on the PP, Richards in the press box, Haley and Newbury on the ice.

They lose that game and these are the top items on how dumb Torts is.

Yup

I have my issues with a lot of the guys glaring flaws but some battles he just can't win

But, that's the same territory of every coach. The real item is keeping yourself out of those situations. If he does not know that he needs an effective 4th line in the playoffs, and has to play them with trust, then he is not doing his job.
If he thinks Richards is playing well and deserves yet another shift, then he is not doing his job.
Time is tight, no time left effing around with 'let's get Brad going'. Srew that crap. It's about the team now.

He did some things right tonight, definitely. Why not sooner, why not a while ago?

A passionate defense of Brad may have earned him some time. HE kept insisting it was his decision. Somebody here said it was not. me think Sather is pulling some strings behind the curtain.

Exactly. Torts is stupid.

From breaking up McD and Girardi, to Richards at the PP point, to playing Kreider with grinders.

I don't know if Asham is hurt, but the guy has 2 goals and looked good on shifts, so i have no idea why Haley is playing over him.

Everything he does is stupid. Torts is a dummy.

I don't think Torts is going anywhere, but if he was, would people be interested in coach Q if Chicago let him go?

Ditto. He needs to have a yin to his yang, which is difficult to achieve when he's the top dog and has all the power.

One thing about Torts; he gave Richards every opportunity for the entire season and up to the last minute in the playoffs to turn things around. Once you're in his good books, he'll go to the wall for you, and I'm sure players appreciate it.

Personally, I think Richards got way too much rope to play with. But, whatever, what's done is done.

I forgot to add McD playing PP

He looked great IMO, someone willing to move his feet

Don't know if this was mentioned, but Marc Savard has some stuff on twitter.....

Tortorella should get fired right after the game he has ruined all of his players confidence #Richardswillget80pointsnextyear #ByeByeTorts

Now this is the second player (Avery the first) to hint at the idea that some of the players don't care too much about Tortorella.

There might not be anything to this. However I always believe, where there's smoke there's fire.

Incidentally, Sean Avery and Marc Savard are both noted idiots.
