And you wonder if the half those first 16 games basically served as his the remainder of his first NHL camp and first NHL preseason.
Yup, I think in a normal season, things unfold quite differently for the kid.

RUINED! FIRE QUINN!

It's interesting that the moment he has common linemates for more than 2 games in a row, he gets comfortable and produces... Like many fans have pointed out the first 4 weeks.

It’s both. He’s more comfortable because he’s got consistent line mates, but he’s got consistent line mates because the coach tinkered until he found something that worked.

It’s both.

And something to keep in mind, Lafreniere is typically more of a playmaker than a sniper.
didn't that happen his last couple seasons in juniors? Wasn't he a sniper first?

It's the Panarin conundrum... Hopefully he finds a good balance

Yeah he scored 40+ as a rookie and was the first player (or only player?) to do that since Crosby. It was also the only season he broke 40.

I don't think it's really much of a conundrum though. He should have more assists than he actually has but his passes have been beefed on the regular. Buch and Strome have been the biggest culprits but they've both put one in for him over the last few games (Buch even put one in off of him.)

Not too go too far down the rabbit hole, but I think his approach is kind of Messier-like. He can score goals, but I think the playmaking is probably the more natural instinct for him.

Now, having said that, that term can be used loosely. A guy who nets 35-40 goals is considered a goal scorer unless he's one of those types who also adds 60 assists to go along with it. Then we end up calling him as a playmaker.

Thus someone with a 35-30-65 stat line scores just as many goals as a player with a 35-60-95 line, but we tend to view them differently.

Messier was also drafted as a Left Winger :naughty:

I was referring to Panarin as in how he passes opportunities up, when he has a shot. That type of balance. Laf hasn't shown that yet, at the least, but I'll take our top 2 lines being led by Panarin and Lafreniere for the next 6 years. They are both elite playmakers with finishing ability.

I think with time he'll get there. I'm curious to see how his game evolves playing with legit NHL talent.

The challenge for someone like Lafreniere is that in juniors he had to be more of a center because he was so much more advanced than his teammates. At this level, in theory, he could take on more of a traditional wing's responsibilities and focus a bit more on shooting.

It'll be interesting to watch.

Hughes' first 9 were primaries. It's nice, but not something special
I know people like to shit on him, but I've been impressed with him. He's obviously not a complete player at this point but his skills are undeniable... He also seems to have his best games against us.... like he wants to impress his big brother.
