I think with time he'll get there. I'm curious to see how his game evolves playing with legit NHL talent.

The challenge for someone like Lafreniere is that in juniors he had to be more of a center because he was so much more advanced than his teammates. At this level, in theory, he could take on more of a traditional wing's responsibilities and focus a bit more on shooting.

It'll be interesting to watch.
Has the org ever been serious about giving him a try at center? There's no doubt in my mind he could do it...

The way things are going, long-term, it is looking bone dry there. Mika and Strome's future not going past 2022. No help in sight. Is this why they are 'invested' into Eichel?

Considering we have Panarin and Kreider along with no long-term center depth, it would make sense for him to get a look at center. Is it worth it? How much will his game change in transition? It's all moot if we can land a Beniers or Dvorak type.

Right now, I don't think there's much, if any thought given to trying Laf at center.

Kind of like Jagr, there's feeling he'll bring center value on the wing.

Honestly, as sweet as his goal was, that pass to Buchnevich wowed me even more. Most players get flustered with multiple sticks in the lane and will either try to lead their teammate (which makes the shooting angle more difficult) or sauce it over (making it harder to connect for a quick shot) Laff has such a deceptive stride that he just fakes some weight on his stick before pivoting in motion to make sure the pass was perfect.

i wouldn’t say the pass to buch was perfect at all. buch had to bring his hands in quite a bit to get the shot off. thankfully buch didn’t mess up the shot. not saying it was a bad pass, but it was far from perfect. I’ve seen many a pass like that get flubbed this season.

You don't think Panarin can snipe like that? Not taking anything away from that incredible shot. Nor am I taking anything away from Gaborik's ability to snipe either.

But I think Panarin has an accurate laser beam like that too:

He does, just haven't seen it as much as a ranger. But that Laf snipe, top corner, in and out so quickly. That last time I saw that by a ranger was Gaborik's snipe against the Kings year back.

To be clear I am not taking anything away from Panarin's shot. His shot by definition is probably better than Laf's. Just commenting on how beautiful this one was.

Laf showed why he was the top of his draft class with the recent assists and that wired wrister last night.

Those are elite level talent skill plays. That pass to Buch was threaded with purpose and no hesitation into an area the size of coffee can. He's finding it. No surprise it took some time after 10 months off and going from juniors straight to the NHL with a BS camp and no preseason.

82 game pace of 16G, 12A and you need to think that will go up the way he is performing, especially the helpers.

Talk about zero patience.

My brother bet me he would either be off the team or a complete bust on the lower lines. Adamant about it. Wasnt impressed.

He wanted me to bet $300 that Laf would not be a top 6 forward and top 6 leading scorer on the Rangers in 5 years. Of course I took the bet and told him I'd bet another $300 he would be that in 3 years.

He texted me last night "Should I Venmo you now?"

if he puts it further out, Buch would have to accept on the backhand; if he puts it further back, it is deflected by a d-man. That was a pretty great pass.

The skills are evident. It's the adjusting and adapting that's paramount.

In Lafreniere's case, he went 10 months without game action, and that doesn't even take into account the difference between the level of competition in the Q compared to the NHL. That's like trying to long-jump without a running start.

But I believe with time, experience and confidence you're going to see why he compared as well as he did to someone like MacKinnon at the same age.

He and Kakko have shown glimpses of why they were taken where they were. Prior to the damn COVID protocol, Kakko was having some young Jagr-esque moments out there himself.

I see no reason not to be bullish on these two, Chytil, and Miller. I see Fox and Igor as sure things as they are established in my mind.

Buch was on the off wing, left hand shot towards the right side, really no better place to put that pass. If he were a righty shot then sure, the pass should have led him a teensy bit as you're on the forehand. A leading pass would force Buch to take it on his back hand for a 'good' but not great scoring chance.
