Nope.

It's so teams can't stash away RFAs and bring them back late in the season, effectively bypassing the salary cap.

But a one time event like the KHL crashing could cause the NHL to suspend that rule. However the teams that do not have RFAs in Russia will likely be opposed to it.

I thought the rule was to prevent RFA's from holding out? To put a real deadline on the negotiation process.

That too I suppose.

That's the only reason I put my question out. There was no negotiation process this season because he already had a KHL contract. I'm inclined to believe that it's irrelevant as well and Dec 1 still applies, but there haven't been too many of these to see how they get dealt with.

Would be funny if true. And the Jets rolled him out during the skills comp.

Someone posted a quote from the CBA that stated specifically that the contract had to be registered with the league by 5:00 (PM?) on the 1st of Dec. so no secret contracts.

Ironically, he's the guy looking away and ignoring the coach :p:

No - that's just him turning to hear his agent saying that he has to hurry off the ice, his plane to Winnipeg leaves in 2 hours...

Hey, he was good enough to be #2 centre on the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 jets

In 11-12 production wise he was behind Little, Antro and Wellwood. In 12-13 production wise he was behind Little, Antro, Wellwood and Olli. He might have lined up occasionally at center on the 2nd line, but he sure wasn't the everyday 2nd line center.

On avg his production falls below avg for 2nd line player.
His affects on shot (and in turn goal differentials) is above avg for 2nd line player.

Whether or not he's a 2nd or 3rd line calibre centre on a team would more have to do with need: possession vs finishing.

Either way you cut it... a middle six with any combo of Kane, Scheifele, Perreault, Frolik, Burmistrov and one of Ehlers, Lowry, or Petan is pretty good with a combination of many different skill sets.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to have Burmi come back. I don't know how many times I've advocated we need to improve our forward depth so we can consistently run 4 lines. Just pointing out Burmi wasn't the Jets 2nd line center while he was here. Or at least that wasn't the role he played.

Being a 2nd line centre and being 2nd line calibre is two different things though.

In 2011-12 only Little averaged more ES TOI/GP than Burmistrov for centres.
Wellwood mostly played wing when he was in the top 6.
Antropov moved up and down from first to fourth line.
I'd call Burmistrov's Jets 2011-12 2nd line centre.

In 2012-13 both Little and Jokinen averaged more ES TOI/GP than Burmistrov for centres.
Most of the time Burmistrov spent on the third line, with Jokinen centring the second line.
There were moments where Little was moved to wing and Antropov played centre in the top six.
I would call Burmistrov's Jets 2012-13 3rd line centre, although I would argue that he should have been 2nd over Jokinen.

Any reliable information on his current weight or if he's added any mass?

In the "Will there be a player exodus from KHL due to drop in the ruble?" thread on the Business of Hockey sub-forum here, there's a pointer to an article at The Hockey News

When he signed his contract, the ruble was trading at between 33 and 34 rubles to an American dollar. It now costs about 60 rubles to buy an American dollar today.

And he’s still one of the lucky ones. At least his team has paid its players on time. According to Glass, Atlant is on the verge of collapse and three other teams of which he’s aware – Sibir, Medvescak and Dinamo Riga – have not paid their players or coaches in three months. Glass said he has been hearing around the league that all three teams have been selling off their top players and he expects players in Sibir, at least, will start seeing paychecks soon.

Let's forget about the politics behind the decline of the ruble. It's happening, and one of the incentives for Burmistrov to play in the KHL was higher pay and lower taxes. The collapsing ruble might drive him back to us next season.

Alex plays for one of the richest owners/teams (if not the richest) in the KHL so at least he has that going for him. That being said the KHL is on fire and it doesn't make sense to stay put. What this does do is give Chevy and the Jets allot more leverage. Up until this point there was always a chance Alex was using us to get a sweeter deal in the K but I think that ship has sailed, or better yet that ship is sinking and Alex is one of the lucky ones with a lifeboat. Now of coarse the Russian economy could come back between now and May-June which is when players commit to the KHL but I don't see that.

Even if the Russian economy recovers somewhat it will continue to be a little unstable for a time. Is that Ak Bars owner still so rich?

I think this has to be the last straw for Alex. He was somewhat (not known precisely) likely to return to the NHL next year before this happened. Now? I think it has to be almost certain.
