He's spent most of the year at C but he belongs on the wing. To me he's shown a fair amount more hockey IQ than Anderson. He knows how to use his linemates better.

He's still young and developing so I think there is still some room for growth in his game. But I'm not expecting a top line player. I think he'll be a middle six complementary winger.

both him and slaf are struggling thanks to dach's injury. i know it was one game but they seem to be affected by it.

if only we have two monahans. gally will suffer as well without him. we really need dvorak to step up big time.
Difference is we don't need Gallagher to be good for our eventual compete window. We've invested important assets into Slaf and Newhook and can't afford to see them stagnate. Make a line with Anderson, Dvorak and Gallagher, let them be "great vets" or whatever their role is together.

I would put Newhook in the bumper position on PP1 instead of Anderson. Use his great shot and quick release there.

And for people who are already saying he's nothing more than what he was in Colorado: I didn't know that MSL was such a magician that within 11 games into the season, Newhook would suddenly become 60-point player.

Give it time. Guy has to develop.

Newhook was traded because he couldn’t produce as a 2C. He started well playing on the wing and showed his skills and speed while still adapting to a new system, coach and team mates. People were praising the trade.

Recently he’s been asked to step up and cover the 2C role, with a worse supporting cast than he had in Colorado, and all of a sudden he sucks and is not worth the acquisition cost. Has he regressed that quickly and lost the same speed and skills he was being praised for, or are people expectations to high for him at 2C?

The kids has skills and speed and can help the club moving forward. He hasn’t developed enough yet to have a real impact at C, but he can certainly contribute as a complementary winger. Give him sometime, he’s 22 years old and is not a final product yet.

He was trade by Avs because:

1- we dont still believe that much in him and we want to get the value we got for Tyson Jost, which was a rare mess.
2- He has a ton of chance with the best assets in the team (league) and cant be effective as a complement
3- Dont realy useful in a 3rd line role on Avs perspective (We saw what they searching for later with the Ross trade)
4-The offer was too good and the base for a lateral move

Also, the Avs fanbase wouldnt recognize Newhook like a speedster. In fact, he had so much problem to create separation and that was a part of the problem... and it's not so different here in Montreal but the style, the role and even the opponents are differents.

Newhook can skate fast in a straight line for a few seconds and makes strange faces on the bench. He always looks like he has a toothache. Not seeing much there at all so far to be honest

Dont really care about the price we paid but i wonder if we could have made a better use of those pick?

Still mitigated about Newhook. How much do we needed this small left winger with dubious offensive upside ?

Said a similar thing when the deal was made. Would rather have taken the picks and tried to develop them, than to take a chance on a guy Joe Sakic was cutting bait on… doesn’t make sense to me then, doesn’t make sense to me now.

Yeah if we were going to add another small winger I would have rathered it be a potential star like Benson or Michkov.

But aside from the height not being a fit, I think he'll be a good player for us. Just hope it doesn't stop us from adding high end talent if it comes undersized.

Newhook is a limited player. I really liked him going into the draft but last year made me realize he is full of effort, but he doesn't seem capable of winning puck battles nor see the ice the ice well. He could eventually develop into a 20 goal, 45 point tweener, but is he going to be carrying the mail while doing so? Something tells me not.

I don't really care about the picks because two other B-prospect is probably not what we needed too.

Its the most average of picks for the most average player.

I think he brings nice speed and he will have a career but on a middle six role in my opinion. Dont think we should expect more.

He has a nice shot tho. ~20g and ~45points is what i would expect with him.

*potential star
Reinbacher is a potential star too my dear then.

I would be glad we would have drafted Benson or Michkov but we would have another problem with our RD. We had this many holes.

If we were an Alex Newhook away from competing I’d agree with you, but we are at least 4 years away now, and I’d rather take the chance on developing the unknown with potential than the proven average commodity.

Debatable. We also don't know if there was anything else available for those picks out there.

In 4 years Newhook will still only be 26 and likely in his prime.
