how many points would rossi have to produce to be considered the best player in his draft?
Even if he outproduces everyone on his draft there will always be people out there who will say: "But the size!". So the answer is simple: Never gonna happen.

In this thread you can find people who would rather have Jarvis or Lundell than Rossi. Heck one'd even still take Lafreniere and Byfield over him and some other said that Rossi wouldn't make his top10 in a redraft.

That shows me how low his standing is, even by minnesota wild fans.

The most impressive thing about Rossi is everyone thought he was carried by Kaprizov. But when Kaprizov got injured, Rossi has increased his scoring to PPG rate. At the moment he plays with scrubs like Foligno & Hartman but he's still scoring.

Another bonus is that he plays a very mature and responsible game on defense too.

Can't ask more from this kid imo.

Sometimes its just emberassing when someone tries to be funny. Sarcasm doesn't fit u.
You've obviously been devoid of carbonated beverage soaked legumes for far too long. It's clearly had a detrimental affect on your sense of humor. A few soggy, fizzy seedpods might change your tune, sir.

(You can have mine. I won't touch the things.)

I have the 8 year number for Rossi:

Robert Thomas signed 8 x $8.125M after a 77 point in 72 game season (1.07 ppg) and looking at an $82.5M salary cap. Cap hit % = ~9.85%.

9.85% of a $95.5M cap = $9.4M

Rossi is currently .89 ppg which is ~83% of Thomas' season. 83% * $9.4M = $7.8M

8 x $7.8M is the fair number.

This is a very interesting point. Well done, sir.

Russo's said a couple times that if Rossi comes and asks for 8+ AAV, Guerin might not want to go there. I've always wondered if Guerin is philosophically opposed to committing to a smaller, skill-forward winger if he's not going to produce like one of the NHL's elite.

I'm guessing that those times were prior to the recent cap projection updates. It might be true about Guerin, but maybe there's wiggle room now that there is more certainty about the jump.

That would make sense, but this is also from Russo's latest piece in The Athletic. He quotes Guerin as saying that the cap changes don't change his evaluations of his players value and it doesn't mean he's going to go and blow a bunch of money. Same article where Russo speculates that Guerin doesn't want pay into the 8M range for Rossi. Piece came out today.

I'm not sure where Russo gets his insider information from. He Has been talkin shit about trading Rossi all autumn. Then he got quite when he saw Rossis numbers I guess.

Now the same shit again but honestly they don't play him where the best scoring player after kap should play after kaps injury while zucc/boldy get a free pass. When they change something in the lineup it's always rossi who has to play with scrubs again. Of course that usement of Rossi crates rumours and thats what a beatwriter like Russo gladly takes to produce content & clicks.

Perhaps BG wouldn't have had to worry about Rossi asking for that much money if he had given him the same treatment that he gave Hartman, Freddy, and Zucc. He could have signed him already. Instead, he has dragged his feet, Rossi has played great, and the kid's price goes up.

It's almost like Guerin is trying to create an excuse by waiting, so he can tell the fans, "Its not my fault. We just can't afford him."

Maybe there's something we all don't know. Like Rossi's boinked Guerins wife/daughter? Or maybe Russo is just talkin shit for clicks.

It's a negotiating tactic. Why would Guerin come out and concede that everyone's salary should go up?

Every time Russo speculates, people on here go into a panic. Yeah, it is possible that Guerin doesn't want to pay Rossi $8M or Kaprizov $15M or spend to the cap or whatever. But either way I think Guerin is smart enough to not put all of his cards on the table half way through the regular season.

Rossi is an RFA, and if they don't agree on a contract before the start of free agency he'll probably have been traded by that point. If not the chances of an offer sheet are pretty low. If he's offered at 8M per year it would be the highest AAV on an offer sheet in the history of the NHL. If it's a term of 5 years or less, Guerin probably waits the full week and matches and then trades Rossi. If it's for 6 years or longer we probably get two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd if we don't match.

Why worry about it now? We're in a good spot either way.

Never said it didn't

Just like you probably didn't mean to imply that it'll work out this time because it worked out last time
Absolutely. I think they're two totally different situations though, with Rossi coming off his ELC, the buyout penalties dropping down to under 2M, and the cap going up 24-25 million over the next three years.

If Rossi looks like a stud in the playoffs, I'm sure BG will keep him. He doesn't seem to like shaking up the roster too much.
