Fan of the player, but not of the price. That being said, less than 200 games in the NHL, he's still developing and he got no ice time in Colorado.

I REALLY didn't like the Dach move at the time. So going to give this a chance.
i'm having the same reaction... I was not sure about the Dach move last year either so i'm incline to give them a chance on this one....

Got to think that there are at least two other move coming: one to move out a C and one to move out a LD.

And we have wayyyyy to many forward....

At least now management seems to believe in their ability to develop prospects, instead of just letting them be.

As for Newhook, he becomes potentially our fastest forward, with dual-threat finishing and playmaking. Tools are there. Now let's give him the proper environment to thrive.

To me he should definitely play LW, but would he be a better fit next to 14 or 77?

I think he'd be good opposite Slaf, with vet Monahan as their C.

As of now I have RHP opposite Anderson and Caufield opposite Dvorak. But I expect more moves.

Have to think Dvorak + a 4th is on the way out for a 2nd a 3 rd presumably. Monahan slots into the #3 spot.
Also, the rumour of the habs dropping back to 7, and suddenly they’ve recouped the picks.

I'm good with giving up 31st for him, but the 2nd too kind of hurts.

This is a wait and see trade for sure. Young player that hasn't really developed in Colorado. Is another small player.
I would've felt much better about if it were the Habs trading back the Avs 2024 2nd round pick instead of moving #37 in this good deep draft.

Yeah I hope it's not a Dman at 5th overall in what's looking like a stacked offensive draft.
Maybe the plan is to trade back 2-3 spots to draft him + an extra pick. I don't like it but if scouting staff don't want Mitchov, there's noth8ng we can do about it

Reminds me of the Andrew Shaw trade (to get him) which I didn't like. This one I like a bit more than that one, though. Still seems like a lot, but I'm assuming the Habs like and believe in this player.

Interesting move. A bit of sticker shock for me initially but I realize I've been in prospect-brain mode for a while so I'm probably overrating the picks. After sitting with it for a bit it's hard to really complain, we'd be happy to turn either of those picks into a Newhook level player and now we don't have to wait 3-4 years for that to happen.

It kinda makes sense to me in the sense of we paid probably 75% of the Dach price for a guy with 75% of his upside, and I like that they're willing to turn quantity into quality and trade magic beans for certainty. Excited to see what he does with a bigger opportunity here.

Lol at people thinking this was an overpayment

Newhook will be given top 6 opportunities and add elite speed to our forward group.

In a year he could be a steal, though could perhaps be dealt with a guy like Barron for PLD.

Tentatively, this is what I think too. I haven't followed Newhook too much with Colorado, but he had the speed, smarts and skill back in his draft year. I think he'll be a very good fit here.

I agree with what a few have written. Unlike Bergevin, Hughes definitely seems to believe in windows. Newhook's age fits more with our core. That 2nd round pick, and most likely that 1st rounder too, wouldn't have been here for a while.

And we have tons of comparable prospects in the system. So we use them on a guy that has scored 30 pts (almost all ES) twice, is only 22 and has some potential. Late 1st/early 2nds are far from guaranteeing an NHLer, let alone a top 6 player.

Price still seems steep but there's logic behind the move.

Wonder what our lines for next year look like and if next season will be a transition year or a try-to-make-the-playoffs-but-don't-say-too-loud year.

Not Really happy with this trade. Another small player….and The Colorado fans are very happy and can't believe they received so much for Newhook which is not encouraging for us,
