seems this , I am not sure

no size. but talent.... this team has wayyyyyy to many forwards
Not really. Maybe too many undersized forwards in the organization.

Pierre McGuire says that Newhook is small but doesn’t play small.

Forecaster:
Has the kind of speed that can back off opponents and he excels at putting the puck in places where his teammates can score. He will have to get stronger to survive the NHL grind and needs to shoot more to keep opposing defenses honest. Can play any forward position.

Long Range Potential: Speedy, creative playmaker.

I don't mind this trade. It could go either way, but at least there's a discernible strategy in what Hugo is doing.

In terms of roster fit, Newhook could be a puck carrying winger that we missed on Dvorak's line.

Go to the Avalanche board. Almost unanimously happy reaction from the people who watch him every game. HuGo trying to accelerate the rebuild instead of build organically. Wrong target IMO.
Hawks fans were stoked with the Dach trade at the time too. I will say though that Dach had way more intriguing tools. I wish we made this trade for Sharangovich instead.

After trading for another forward in Newhook I think the Habs will trade down from 5 and take the dman Reinbacher now. Sigh...
Yeah, we’re trading down unless Smith falls to us.

Further evidence Michkov isn’t part of the game plan.

Just some conjecture from me

Lol at people thinking this was an overpayment

Newhook will be given top 6 opportunities and add elite speed to our forward group.

In a year he could be a steal, though could perhaps be dealt with a guy like Barron for PLD.

At least now management seems to believe in their ability to develop prospects, instead of just letting them be.

As for Newhook, he becomes potentially our fastest forward, with dual-threat finishing and playmaking. Tools are there. Now let's give him the proper environment to thrive.

To me he should definitely play LW, but would he be a better fit next to 14 or 77?

I dont freaking understand the overpayment for another enigmatic small player. Another small bottom 6 player. Yea

I mean i’m fine for overpayment if you get something you don’t have.

FWIW, Pierre McGuire, who's watched him for years, thinks he's a dynamic player with a ceiling of 20-25 goals, 60 - 70 points. Can play wing or center.

As an FYI…I doubt Newhook will be a top six centre. He has real potential to be a good top six winger, though. The Avs tried to force him at centre this last year with Kadri having departed and it just didn’t work at all.

Thanks for the report! I really liked him in his draft year. A top 6 winger will be very good for Habs!!

I'm good with giving up 31st for him, but the 2nd too kind of hurts.

This is a wait and see trade for sure. Young player that hasn't really developed in Colorado. Is another small player.

Yeah, the size is really the sticking point me on the WTFometer
