Funny how people just hates the trade because of the players they would have liked with the 2nd picks. Those 2nd picks would have had a 15 % chance of ever making an impact on the team.

It's not so much losing the picks... I'm aware those are always a crapshoot. It's adding a player that doesn't fit our organizational needs and having him take a roster spot.

After 3 seasons with their drafted teams, Habs acquire Dach one year and Newhook another year.

After 3 seasons with Chicago, Dach had 59 pts (19G, 40A) in 152 GP.
After 3 seasons with Colorado, Newhook had 66 pts (27G, 39A) in 159 GP.

Dach suffered set backs due to injuries. But it would be normal if he was healthy and had better numbers. He was a 3rd OA pick, whereas Newhook went 16th.

Also, remember last year how fans were not happy Habs traded Romanov and then turned and acquired Dach. There were a lot of irked fans that they traded Romanov and a lot of unsure fans about getting Dach. That he was underwhelming so far in his young career.

In Newhook's case, all they gave up were picks and a prospect who fell down the depth charts mainly due to major injuries. No young roster player went the other way.

Kent I still feel is not done
More trades like this and he might be done as GM. How small do they want to get? To make sure that they don’t value size and physicality, they threw in Fairbrother even if he’s only a fringe asset.

This is looking like Gorton’s blueprint with the Rags. We’re going to get rag dolled.

But, we’re still in the early stages of roster building, let’s see what else comes up.

I like this deal, always liked the way Newhook played. I have nothing against it.

Now, it's got to be the end for Dvorak here right?

no way he's worth those two picks in this year's draft.

Draft history - Little test of the worth of those picks. 10 years 20 players. 2 good players only.
It is step but pick are overated on these forums

31 - 37
2020 Ozzy Wiesblatt - Marat Khusnutdinov
2019 Ryan Johnson - Mads Sogaard
2018 Alexander Alexeyev - Jett Woo
2017 Kim Klostin - Marcus Davidson
2016 Egor Korshkov - Libor Hajek
2015 Jeremy Roy - Brandon Carlo
2014 Brandon Lemieux - Alex Nedeljkovic
2013 Ian McCoshen - Valentin Zykov
2012 Oscar Dansk - Pontus Aberg
2011 David Musil - Boone Jenner

I think he'd be good opposite Slaf, with vet Monahan as their C.

As of now I have RHP opposite Anderson and Caufield opposite Dvorak. But I expect more moves.
Yeah more moves are coming. I'm thinking Dvorak and Edmundson are both almost certainly gone.

Personally, i'd say f it and put all the younger guys in the top-6; Newhook with Dach & Slaf.

Have to think Dvorak + a 4th is on the way out for a 2nd a 3 rd presumably. Monahan slots into the #3 spot.
Also, the rumour of the habs dropping back to 7, and suddenly they’ve recouped the picks.
If we do swap picks with the Flyers, they don't have anything else to really offer us unless they're willing to give us the Kings 1st. Flyers have no 2nd round picks this year

Skill player with a decent motor. Good wheels but overall a weak skater imo. Really needs to gain more strength. His biggest weakness is he can't seem to seperate himself from other players at the NHL level.

I know its two picks and not one, but I do like that mentality. I mean, realistically, what werethe 31st and 37 picks going to be?

Its like Hughes is doing his draft picking around the NHL instead. At 22, Newhook is a much better known commodity than pick 31/37.

Hopefully they did their homeworks and not gambling

Yup, that would be a possibility.

They probably expect not to pick a C, so they made sure to acquire a young C with top 6 potential.

They did that last year when they picks Slaf 1st OA. And when they got Dach not long after, the picture why they didn't pick Wright was made more clear. They could do the same this year.

Yeah, I don't get who's pulling the strings here and demanding we have this quota of soft smurfs on this team, I really do not. They can't be taking Mitchkov with this vomitworthy lineup of woke little turds next season, that kid will get destroyed in 3 years when he arrives.

can't see why every Hab GM looks only at small forwards., Is it so MSL can look them in the eye??

I guess we see
