terrible take, Domi isn't 22 years old, the Habs clearly think they are getting someone that in a few years will be a lot better then they have shown so far. The Habs should be targeting players under say 24 years old or so, Domi would be like putting a screen door on a submarine.
Agreed, I like this one and I liked the Dach one last year, I will say I like this one less but Hughes doing Hughes things.

That’s only semantics. We’re a rebuilding team that has traded off a 1st and a 2nd in a deep draft. There will be fallers and we’ll bite ourselves.

In reality, we’ve shipped out quality roster players — they just had yet to be named.

Friggin’ Sakic — Hughes learned nothing from his past dealings with him.

I think Newhook is being underrated here.

This very much resembles a Bargain Bin move. I am willing to give them until the draft to see if there's something else that could save this stupidity.

They've got till Thursday. Let's see what they do.
Lmao, relax. What sort of move did Bergevin ever do that was like this? He hoarded our first round picks like he was Gollum and they were the ring (to a fault, this was not a good thing), and usually only ever did horizontal trades that incrementally improved the team.

Unless like it's been rumored the Habs are willing to drop to 7th and trade the pick to Philly for the 7th and 22nd

That would make sense and we would get a decent player at 22, much more than 31

Sounds like the Habs want to go with Suzuki and Dach, so I'm thinking he might be on the wing with Dach and Slaf
Cant put CC and Newhook on the same line. he'll need size beside him.

CC - Suzuki - Dach
Anderson - Newhook - Hoffman
Slaf - Monahan - Gally
RHP - Evans - Armia

Dvorak - traded
Pitlick - Laval
Pezz - press box

another option

RHP - Suzuki - Newhook
CC - Dach - Anderson
Slaf - Monahan - Gally
Hoffman - Evans - Armia

McGuire said he wouldn't be afraid to take Michkov. Listen to Pierre Kent.
If they chickened out of the PLD trade and got Newhook as a consolation, i doubt they have the balls to sign Comtois to anything after the WJC scandal.
He released a statement at the time that he had nothing to do with any of that so unless some new news comes out saying he was indeed involved I'll take his word on him saying he wasn't involved.

I will say that Habs needed an elite skater in the top 6 as well. Seems like Slaf will get his shot on the top line this year.

Slaf-Suzuki-CC
Newhook-Dach-Anderson
Monahan-Dvorak-Gallagher
RHP-Evans-Ylonen

Definitely need a couple more trades because 8 million in Hoffman and Armia won't be healthy scratches.
Kind of a puke-worthy lineup. No way that competes with our young D. I don't understand the necessity to trade so many picks for an unproven player when we can build slowly and stockpile prospects. No way we'll find a way to leave Hoffman and Armia out of the lineup. Unless they're scratched or sent out in orbit.

RFA so any idea what kind of term and money he's looking for

Not knowing his fit on the team he will probably go for 1-2 year deal and not long term

This was done with forward thinking, something MB couldn't do if his life depended on it. It's really nothing like MB, since MB tried to bring in old washed up players on the cheap, Hughes is clearly going after elite skating/speed high motor guys like Heinemen, Smilanic, so it's a pattern that they appear to be looking for. How it works out of course only time will tell.

I would've felt much better about if it were the Habs trading back the Avs 2024 2nd round pick instead of moving #37 in this good deep draft.

Yeah, definitely would have preferred 2024 Colorado's pick going back.

Newhook's only 22, and only finished his 2nd full season in NHL, so there's still a lot of room for development. He brings a lot of speed too, which the team could use.
