Calling out the people who wanted to send him back down that he wasn't ready and didn't want to burn a year on his contract

To be fair, he got a half OHL season in which I'm sure helped his development in some manner when you compare his production at the start of the OHL season and at the end.

Has it occured to anyone here complaining about Chuckie's ice-time that maybe he's thriving so much because Therrien is playing him in the right situations that maximize his point-production potential?

Just a thought.

Of course, that shooting percentage is unsustainable. Galchenyuk is going to have to learn to get more shots on the net.

He definitely needs to hit the net more but his percentage is that high because literally all of his goals have come within ten feet of the net...which is great because once he starts using his wrister...oh boy

This.

Has it ever occurred to some of the posters on this board that maybe, just maybe, that the experienced coaching and front office staffs have a sounder strategy about player development than a bunch of impatient hfboards posters do?

The transition from juniors to the NHL is not an easy thing. Very few players do it without a significant stint in the AHL. Add in the fact that Galchenyuk lost a full year due to knee injury and the transition would seemingly take a bit more time.

The Canadiens management is taking a much longer view of Galchenyuk's career than a 3 game losing streak-based perspective. The kid is getting his feet wet, succeeding, and gaining the exposure he needs at his age.

Thank goodness that the only direct fan input in Montreal is in the meaningless 3 star selections.

If Therrien wanted to maximize his point-production potential, he'd have put him on the powerplay. Instead, we have to enjoy DD, Gionta and Bouillon on the powerplay.

Galchenyuk: 12:21
Gallagher: 13:57
Pacioretty: 16:22
Eller: 14:53

While

Bourque: 16:45
Desharnais: 16:35
Gionta: 18:03 - WTF

Plekanec playing 19 minutes a game, I don't have any issue. But Therrien should use Eller, both Gally way more and reduced Gionta/Bourque to the 13-14 minutes. Nothing happen with them lately, and Pacioretty could use an extra minute or two a game.

Yes, I'm sure if we put Galchenyuk on the PP while DD continues to be useless that Galchenyuk's development will stall and he will become a Daigle-esque bust.

That move last night was probably his sickest goal so far. Please give this kid as much ice time as he can handle. Eventually those wristers will go in (for him and Eller).

As for PP, it's not like he doesn't know what to do. He was deadly in Sarnia playing from anywhere and from watching him play live on one of the few PPs he's played on, man between him, Eller and if given Markov and Subban, they know how to get all 5 guys to touch the puck in 10 seconds and then put it in the back of the net. I just don't know what MT is thinking aside from forcing the vets to get it right in game.

I don't necessarily have a problem with the way the coaching staff has brough Galchenyuk along.

But games like the last 3 one's, I kind of ask myself why in those games, especially when down 5-1, why the same players who are ineffective keep getting the icetime.

Seems like a good time to let a guy like Galchenyuk get some time at C...

They will just say "we were trying to get the veterans going".

Well, you tried all season and they still are the "suckiest bunch of sucks". So you might as well allocate ice-time where it's deserved

I generally agree in regards to ES usage.

But come on, there is no easier situation for a skilled rookie than the powerplay.

9-10 mins in easier ES situations + ample PP time would be better IMO.

Without having Galchenyuk on the PP throughout the year it would probably be very difficult to put him in now. PP is entirely different from ES. Not that I wouldn't love to see him there and don't think he'd be great. Isn't just as easy as throwing him on the ice during a PP.

They should immediately bench him after he gets a point. Pads his 5 on 5 points/ 60 minutes played stats which is currently 17th in the NHL among players with 30+ games.

No matter what, the team is dependant on guys like DD, gionta, patches... Etc. Much more so right now then galch. Its more important to bring their confidence/groove back, however you want to call it. Galch will be that guy in a few years, not right now.

More important to get veterans back on track then to squeeze in a few more goals for meaningless games.

How can so many of you not see this...

Ya, I saw it too... WTF It was by far the best goal I have seen this season. Not a homer either. He's 19, right?

That is very telling.

Trim the FAT from that list and you get
1. Crosby
2. Staal
3. Hall
4. Pacioretty
5. Getzlaf
6. Bergeron (wow, along with his defense)
7. Stamkos
8. Duchene
9. Gallagher
10. Galchenyuk

3 in the top 10. And 2 of our 3 are 20 and under.

From this team you mean? God, now that you have me thinking about it, and this might be alcohol induced short term memory loss while watching games, but I can't remember a nicer goal from our boys this year either, aside from Galchenyuk's primary assisted ones where he does all the moves.

Just curious, but why exactly did you just remove Kadri, Toews, Cullen, Kunitz etc..? How did you determine that they are the fat?

I just misplaced Toews giant oversight.

The rest are either being carried, have more to prove, or are having an anomality of a season

Fair enough, but I don't see how you can put Galchenyuk on the list then.

Edit: Or Gallagher for that matter.

I don't remember where I read it (it may have been on 24CH) but apparently MT has had Galchenyuk in on all the PP meetings to understand their system.

Well yes, the same argument can be said for Kadri who is ahead of them on the list too, not denying that. Gallagher and Galchenyuk also fall udner the ''have more to prove'' category. I just wanted to compare them to established top scorers.

What? So Gallagher and Galchenyuk can remain on your list but someone like Kadri has "more to prove"? That's just dumb. 11th, 16th and 17th are still decent, no need to customize the list at your whim to make a slightly (?) more impressive "3 in top 10" statement.
