Perhaps you could elaborate on how you feel he's soft?I think we define soft differently.

Point and Fleury would/do win their share of board battles and were/are not perimeter players. Debrincat is soft, it’s a mentality not stature issue. Logan Brown is big and soft, Eric Brannstrom is small and not soft (and getting better), Debrincat is small and soft.I don’t define soft by size because I’ve loved Theo Fluery and MSL - soft is not being able to impact a big hockey game, it’s being quiet when the going gets tough. A guy like Brayden Point isn’t soft because you notice him in big games and big moments - didn’t get that vibe from ADB and that’s why I don’t think he’s worth $8 million. I waited around for him to do something important way to much this season and it never really happened
Doesn’t win battles, plays on the perimeterPerhaps you could elaborate on how you feel he's soft?
Has a very very similar feel to Bobby Ryan - he arrived and underwhelmed and was all wishy washy about extending, and then Ryan got paid off his history in Anaheim and not Ottawa and took the money and clearly was not invested in being his best, doing it right in Ottawa or even doing things like working out.
Anyways, ADB if he stays and signs will be just like Ryan, an overpaid and underachieving soft winger who doesn’t omay Defence and Is supposed to be a top 3 forward but plays most night like a 3d liner and some nights like a top 6.
Anyways, best to anvoid extending this guy. Haven’t been impressed with his play and he never comes up big, just overall really not impressed, not an impact player just a scorer
Some people simply believe that
1. Debrincat is not worth 8M
2. He doesn’t really fit the team identity
3. Our goaltending needs to upgraded.
4. We don’t have sufficient depth up front to be competitive and his money could be better allocate.
You can disagree but neither is wrong it’s just different beliefs on how to build a team.
Hmm, I see a guy who takes hits to make the play, throws the occasional big hit himself, and blocks a surprisingly high amount of shots for a guy who doesn't PK, and is willing to drop the gloves.Doesn’t win battles, plays on the perimeter

When I think soft I look to guys that avoid contact, DeBrincat doesn't really do that.

Is this guy soft?
This explains my thoughts on soft
I don’t like that shot heat map but depending on the other facets of his game I may consider him soft.Is this guy soft?

I’m curious who is it.
I feel like the only prospects we have left are slated as 3rd liners.I am so torn with this situation. Even if he hypothetically wanted to extend, what’s better? A 35-40 goal scorer, or to use that space to build up the 3rd line and get a true #1 goalie, while allowing us to keep Sanderson, Chabot, and Chychrun
Interesting. He’s definitely not the hard player he used to be but I wouldn’t call him soft.Ovechkin
That would be awesome. I like him. I think he will only get better as he matures in the NHL.I heard that ADB didn’t want to negotiate in season. No, can’t provide the link
Entire Sens locker room “I want to be here, this place is special, I want to win here”
Debrincat “I’m going to sit down, I’m going to look out the window, I’m going to stare into the mirror, I’m going to look my agent in the eye, I’m going to look my wife in the eye, I’m going to look my dog in the eye”
He’s not staying. He’s been a distraction all year. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
If he takes $8M AAV over 7 or 8 years, I would see that as acceptable and in line with the team's top players. Not at all the same imo.
The Sens are a fun team to be a part of today. Much closer to being choosers than being beggars. Young and chalked full of talent, heading in the right direction with all of the core under contract. And they could even be in the mainstream spotlight soon if Reynolds gets involved.
Bobby Ryan knew he had the Sens bent over a barrel in negotiations, and the stink of our desperation could be smelt from a mile away. We needed his name brand so much more than he needed us was the truth. Whereas DeBrincat and the Sens are both trying to figure out if there's even room left for him on a crowded team full of stars.
Even if DeBrincat won't resign, which I believe is not true and that he will, this is a minor setback at worst for us imo. And it will say a lot about DeBrincat if he's passing up a chance to win someday and sell himself to the highest bidder (which won't be a contender).
But I love him and I still believe that a duo of him + Stu and then Norris + Brady on the other line is the ultimate solution to pushing this team over the top. And I do think he takes a slight discount from the open market for a chance at winning here.
Ian Mendes reported that after the trade, couldn't find a direct link but there are a bunch of sites talking about it, maybe it was a radio hitI heard that ADB didn’t want to negotiate in season. No, can’t provide the link
In general I just find it hard to say we need to move one of the most prolific scorers this team has ever had (based on his career to date) and pass that off as a luxury.Last year I was a significant advocate for getting DeBrincat but the situation and dynamics of our team has changed completely.
Now, this doesn't mean we get rid of ADB and call it a day. We must properly and effectively use those resources(assets/money) to shore up the goaltending, and bring in another solid middle 6 who will produce top 6 production + possible upgrade on defense. If we cannot achieve that, we might as well keep ADB instead of regress. Next year we must make playoffs. No doubt about it.
Interesting. He’s definitely not the hard player he used to be but I wouldn’t call him soft.
If you honestly look at his play how many times did you see him between and below the circles.DeBrincat's heat map is similar to just about every shooter in the NHL...and a bunch more. You can't pull out a fancy graph in a vacuum and declare it to be evidence.

I think, same as I said prior to the DBC trade even happening, whoever signs him to a big UFA deal will regret it short thereafter.
Last year before the trade, people were telling me he was a 10 million dollar guy
