Player Discussion Alex DeBrincat

They actually speculated on that absurd nonsense on the radio in a serious way? - like did they introduce a single fact?

Did they also make Chicago trade him to us? How does that work exactly?
Did they get Adams and Dorion together and help them work out a deal?
Did they reach out to other GMS like Stevie Y and force them into not trading for the player?

This is right up there with lottery rigging.

Hamonic’s value far exceeds his on ice performance. This isn’t a video game, team chemistry, leadership and mentoring are all real facets of team building.

I’d take him to arbitration rather than give him his 9M. No way he comes close to 9 in that scenario.
7.65 is the minimum he can get in arbitration.

As discussed on the local Sport Radio station yesterday, there is reason to suspect the NHL facilitating the trade to Ottawa, knowing that they would soon be put up for sale. This ties in with the rumoured $450 million debt, with a big part of being a LOC extended by the NHL to the Sens to make signing and make the trade for the Cat, to improve the Senators for the coming season, and pump up the value, and asking price for the franchise went it eventually was going to put up for sale.
Honestly I cannot believe that. Maybe they suggested it was a good idea to Ottawa, but no way Chicago would do something not in their best interest. Regardless of how you view Debrincat, he really did not add much worth to this team. There are extraordinarily few players in the league that can add worth to a team, and it may stop and start with a young McDavid or Bedard.

Like I said, they talked about this Line of Credit, being extended to the Sens, last Summer, to give PD the ability to trade for The Cat, and be able to lift the Cap to the level it sits at today. It’s in the interest of the NHL for the Sens to be sold for as much as possible…
win win.

I was looking at his stats this year, and wondering if it is really that much of a down year as has been played up. Certainly his goals are down, but when looking at the overall body of work and situation, I did not find this year that much worse on a whole.

On some "softer" stats, he has set career highs in hits, blocks and assists with his best turnover numbers since his rookie year. That tells me he has been a more engaged player overall this year.

Also his minutes are down close to 2 minutes from last year. Looking at his per 60, yes goals are down noticeably, pretty much in concert with his drop in shooting percentage. But his assist per 60 is a career high despite his secondary assists at a career low. His primary assists/60 (which I believe leads the team) is far above his career highs. His points per 60 is very close to career average, in fact he is only 2 points off his pace from last year.

All in all looking at his career and even last year, he looks to be more engaged, passing and shooting more, being much more of a playmaker than the past. The only real down number has been shooting percentage., but the other factors, especially primary assists I believe easily makes that up.

Still do not think he is a 9M dollar player, but I see a lot in his game that speak of evolution, not down year.

Sh% was really low early in the season, like first 25 games below 7%, and the down year narrative to full hold, since then he's been closer to career norms at over 12% (which is still a touch low for him)

One interesting fact is he hit a career high in assists the other night against Carolina. Not bad for a down year,

I'm hopeful we can get him under contract for a hair under 8 mil, that to me would be ideal.

They should be taking him to club-elected arbitration rather than qualifying him.
Best possible outcomes in order

1. Dorion is canned and the next GM chooses goaltending and depth rather than “loading up” the second line at first line prices.

2. Debrincat signs a realistic team friendly deal in the 7.5M or below.

3. Team elects to take Debrincat to arbitration.

4. Team qualifies Debrincat who laughs as he signs the QO using Pierre’s back as a table while he has him bent over.

Great news if you were curious about where 9m in cap space would be going. Forget about balance or a top 9.

Well, yeah of course. Obviously they’d qualify him without a deal, or just lose him. They shouldn’t get to the point to send him one, if they do they’re in big, big trouble.

Hopefully it doesn’t throw any water on the thought the club would elect for team elected arbitration.
I know. Him signing the QO is an unlikely option. If a long term deal isn’t reached, arbitration and trade are far more likely scenarios.
Why would he go to arbitration with a 9 million QO? Team needs to get an arbitration offer in weeks before a QO would go out.

Isnt there two windows for teams to elect for arbitration, one after the finals, another in July. Believe Calgary did it with Matthew last off season. I don’t see it going that route, whatever the solution is it either happens at or before the draft which would be before the QO deadline.
