G.T.A.
If a good offer isn't there, we should just play him the entire season. We watch him and Norris create fireworks on the ice and we try to make the post season. Then when all said and done, we just let him go.

Then, next July 1st we use whatever Cap space we have to sign the best UFA that hopefully wants to come to Ottawa. DBC replaced and we still have a pretty good young team. If a good offer isn't there, I don't see this being that bad an alternative.

I think that ship has sailed. If they go to arbitration, it's not going to be a drum circle singing kumbaya around the table. They also need the cap flexibility given some of the recent signings. I suppose they could get creative and find an LTIR contract that can give them some additional cap flexibility but it's a low low probability. All signs point to this guy being gone and the team looking for a 2-3 year replacement for the position while they figure out a longer term plan.

I suspect it wouldn't make it to arbitration if Pierre determines that no other team is willing to trade for him and sign him to an accepted long term deal. Agreeing on term for one year shouldn't be that hard. The hard part is determining the deal will be for one year.

I don't see how an LTIR contract gives any cap flexibility.

They could sign him to a one year deal and trade him while retaining on his salary to increase the return.

Assen na yo!

I did the math and NYI dosn't work at all unless a 3rd team gets involved. Ottawa has to either dump Joseph or Forsberg, or NYI has to dump someone making 2.000+

Why isn't Seattle in on this?
They have the cap space to take on DeBrincat and send us Burakovsky and futures for example.
Cat probably doesn’t want to sign there

Teams are gonna wait until next summer to sign him, that's means DeBrincat will start the season in Ottawa. I would be shock if there's another team willing to trade for him

It's a shame the team culture and new owner wasn't enough to make him wanna stay but given his current value around the league, he really needs to play balls out for that big payday at the deadline this year.
Might be better to wait somehow 🤷‍♂️
And do we package Joseph with him --- sorry chabot

Sens will be ~3 million over the cap with him, we'd have to give up more good picks to move Joseph out to fit the disgruntled winger in

Joseph would increase the cap issue for the other team, so "no" to packaging Debrtincat and Joseph together in a trade. Formenton maybe, but that would require signing Formenton and add to the salary cap issue.

I'd package him with Brannstrom although not sure who would take two small players. Maybe Thomson would add some value being a right shot D who is close to being NHL ready.

moving a pick to fit in someone like DBC is probably worth it if he is staying long term

I think there is almost zero chance that ottawa is keeping him on a 1 year deal

A pick or a prospect like Thomson who is a right shot D that are coveted in the NHL could add some value to a trade. He's also almost NHL ready & was a former first rd pick

Philly just signed Mete, damn I was hoping that Philly would take Brannstrom & Joseph in a DeBrincat package.

I doubt it takes a prospect.... a 2nd/3rd rounder probably does it for a previous cup champion for a team like Chicago

Joseph is probably 500k overpaid for what he brings

Anaheim is the best option for Ottawa and likely Debrincat. They can pay him 9 million or whatever he is looking for. They also have so many disposable assets they can make the deal.

Something around Henrique 50% Retained, Luneau, 2nd 2024 and one of Perreault or Tracy for an extended Debrincat would make sense for both teams.

Would love to get Luneau RD, I'm just not sure DBC is worth all that, but just Henrique & Luneau would be great.

What are everyone’s thoughts on soderblom?
He's off the table from what I was told. Thats who the sens wanted and thats why the deal fell apart on draft day. Berggren was being offered along with whatever first is later in 2024 and one of the seconds in 2023. Sens said no then it died.

Don’t think they’d trade Luneau straight up

I think they would have you seen their D prospects. He is behind, Drysdale, Zellweger, Mintyukov. They also have Warren which is a need as he is big and mobile. They also have Helleson, Hinds and one more guy I forget his name.
