To CAR:
DeBrincat (RFA)

to PHI:
Chabot (5 x 8.000)

To OTT:
Farabee (5 x 5.000)
Pesce (1 x 4.050)

Just spit balling but this would help out our cap situation quite a bit, even after we re-sign Pesce and give Sanderson a massive raise for next year.

cap is rocketing up next year and we have dead space being lifted.

Why are we getting jobbed in trades that we dont need to? Pesce is going to be expensive

Because Dorion likes making big, splashy moves that rarely pay off and usually end with him unloading big acquisition for quite a bit less than he gave up to land him in the first place.

seems like a foregone conclusion that DBC starts in OttS since sens just won’t get good value in a trade unless DBC is agreeing to a long term deal.

Best case scenario now would be to let Dorion take DBC to arbitration (if I recall, Dorion has been pretty good with arb hearings in the past such as Hoffman). Sign the 1 year deal and hopefully once Andlauer comes in, they can bring a new regime and hopefully press reset on the current negotiations and start fresh (and give him the dough he wants if he’s on a torrid goal scoring pace)

Doubtful that a new owner will make DBC want to live in Canada and pay more taxes.

From the sound of it we are, currently, the ones offering the most term and money and he wants nothing to do with it.

He is betting on himself and wants to max his dollars.

Dorion better have a big trick up his sleeve here because it appears to me that he waited too long to settle on a trade and the opportunities to move DBC are now very limited. If the rumours are true that no team sees him as a player worthy of max term then the offers are lukewarm at best. Most likely GMs just looking to pick him up for scraps/cap dumps, essentially as an unofficial UFA as the writing is on the wall here.

But the cap structure doesn't seem to allow for the team to fit him in right now. This could easily end with not only blowing valuable picks but also wasting an entire season with an unbalanced/inappropriate roster.

Christ, we're giving up far superior players in both instances.

A lot of "change for the sake of change" going on in our forum IMO. The simple solution, that we need another 3rd liner that can step up into the top 6 when needed (Domi would have been an insane add) is all we need, and a better 4th liner to replace Kelly.

And please keep DbC :(

They quite literally can't afford DeBrincat after signing Korpisalo.

Sens are in cap hell right now and I proposed a fix, that's all.

Leafs are 8M over…and Ottawa is in cap hell?

I’m sure Dorion has thought of all scenarios. So many are over the cap that Zadina & Co. Won’t be the only player given away in the next 6 weeks. Let’s be patient here. Ottawa is looking to shore up the bottom 6, those players will be cut loose as stars continue to gobble up cap space

They can afford Debrincat. It's not a problem.
Not when you look at capfriendly they can’t.

How? Joseph the most realistic player to move and I don’t think it would be that easy.

Also our bottom six still blows.

It's even worse without Joseph. He's overpaid but still a decent bottom 6 player

Waive Joseph .. Save 1.15 m against the cap

And replace him with a guy making ~0.800 so we've downgraded our botom-6 to save ~350k

Is only 1 team is allowed to be in cap hell at a time or something? lol

So what? 1 whole million? Oh no. Can clear that space easily.

I think DeBrincat and Pinto will come in at more than 9.6M. And the team isn’t going to want to run with a 20-man roster. I think they’d be looking at paying someone to take Joseph, and then also paying someone to take Forsberg. Joseph replaced with a league min vet and Forsberg by Sogaard. Doable, but certainly not easy, and would result in terrible depth.

Can't see Forsberg getting traded. All I'm saying is let's see what the team does from here. I'm not a Dorion fan at all, but they obviously have planned out a few different options depending what happens with Debrincat. The cap isn't worth worrying about until we see the big picture.

Although how nice it is that we are all arguing about being a cap team now? Lol

But Dorion has definitely wasted a lot of money.

Question was how to save 1m

If you have 13 f its a little less dire

They do have to have player in that 4th line spot that can score more than 3 goals and more than 0 5v5 goals for the season.
I have suggested that Reinhardt could take his spot.

Dorion signing Korpisalo and Brannstrom for too much money killed any leverage we had in trade negotiations.

Can't even bluff keeping DeBrincat for the year with him making 7.65M at worst, which would leave us with 2.6M in cap space to sign Pinto and 3 more forwards. Even if all 4 of those forwards sign for league minimum, we'd still be over the cap with only 13F/7D/2G.

No team will be willing to sign him long-term for what he's asking, so we're looking at getting a rental price from the few teams that can still afford to add him for the year in hopes his demands get more realistic or he has a strong rebound season and removes any doubt that he'd live up to something like a 8x8 contract.

As far as the kind of return we'll be looking at from a few of the rumoured interested teams, I'd guess the following:

ANA: Henrique, Groulx, 2nd
NYI: Pageau, Martin/Johnston, 2nd
WSH: Mantha, Milano, 2nd

That's assuming guys like Henrique and Pageau are willing to play here, as both have limited NTCs.

Save 1.150 from waiving Joseph
Call up Reinhardt at 0.813
Savings: 0.337

It doesn't move the needle at all.
