Would it be (wrong/illegal/use whatever term you want) if Dorion discreetly contacted Andlauer to ask him how he feels about committing long term to DeBrincat should he want to stay at a certain price?

Well after Vegas won the cup while being $14M over the salary cap, I don’t think that should be an issue

Being a multi-millionaire or billionaire in the US is way better than being one in Canada lol.

Typically worse for everyone else though.

Yeah, not many places in the world that are better for rich people than America.

But, it's not like Canada is Siberia or the Congo. Life in this country is pretty damned good when you have 7 or 8 figures in your bank account.

It just sounds incredibly spoiled and soft to complain about silly things like temperature measurements and fast food.

Dorion would have to go through the current top executive and owner to reach out to Andlauer to seek his input. It would not be "wrong" or "illegal" to do so. I think it would be prudent!

I don't see much upside with Sokolov personally. Too slow and skills or lack thereof doesn't help him
I feel the same way; however, his stats are not far off from Mark Stone's stats at about the same age, so I think it is too early to write him off. He might blossom like Stone did. I am willing to give him a chance.

My Swiftian proposal for any player who cites not wanting to live in Canada as a reason for leaving a team north of the border is that their salary be reduced by the same percentage as the percentage of hockey related revenue contributed by Canadian teams (somewhere around 35 percent if I recall correctly). Don’t want to play here? Fine, that’s your right. But don’t expect Canadian hockey fans to subsidize your multimillion dollar lifestyle either. :sarcasm:

Biggest difference is his two way game, which is completely lacking apparently, and makes him half the player Stone was. Soko should still get some time on the 3rd line next year just to see if he has the potential to stick, it's make it or break it for him now. If he can't make the jump next season, doubt he'll ever become an NHL player unfortunately.

You really count Lehner and Weber as guys that put Vegas over the cap? It's not the same as Tampa having Kucherov on IR all year then starring in the playoffs. Those guys contributed nothing

We don't really know what the issue is with DeBrincat. Does he simply not want to be in this city or was the unsettled ownership situation and the possibility of being signed then traded an issue for him.

Dorion knows the issue. If it's the latter, I'm sure there's going to be contact between Andlauer and the DeBrincat camp

Tsn1200 just said that the 4 leaked teams on debrincats trade list are all low tax states.

Kid just wants as much money as possible. He's as good as gone.
Ya that's true, all low tax states. But why wouldn't TB be on his list too? Why Florida and not TB?

Tampa doesn't have much cap room? And their core all have somewhat team friendly contracts. If he's looking for top dollar, Tampa ain't the place to go.

Wonder if DeBrincat’s camp circles back on an extension now that the ownership drama appears to be settled.
Let’s hope he doesn’t circle back. Give the next Hockey Ops crew some flexibility to make some moves.

And for every 100 players like Stone with those stats and that age, 99.9 do not turn into stone. Heck 75 do not even make it as an NHL regular.

Maybe he can do it, but the odds are very low.

Dont think Formenton will be playing any time soon either.
I really don’t get this. In all the 2018 WJC team discussion there is only 1 thing we know as fact - John Doe #1 had consensual sex with the woman as she has clearly stated in her statements.

Can the arbitration term be 2 years in Debrincat's case, or just one year? I think he still has one RFA year left (this year).

I guess $7.65 m for one year (or two years which would be better) helps a little whether the plan is to trade him or keep him. But how much better is it, and will it make much of a difference especially for the trade scenario?

The profile for a team that would be interested in Debrincat would be a team that has strong playoff aspirations (they are going for it) and cap room. I don't see rebuilding teams (i.e., Flyers have been mentioned) as being a logical landing spot.

I never liked the trade and the one-year term (and a maybe year) that brought him here.

I'm thinking Alex is looking for a big payday, or doesn't want to be in Canada, or both. If Alex and his family really wanted to be here, you'd think a contract with a long term would be attractive for him.

I'm getting old and my brain is fuzzy, but getting a 1-year arbitration contract means we can't trade him for a full year...right? Or is that waivers (putting a guy on waivers, you can't get him back for a year) I'm thinking of?
