So his excuse for not signing has been resolved. So what's his next excuse?
Was that really an excuse?

Although in any case seeing the price of FA's these days, I'm sure many fans would sooner move on from him than pay market rates.

Maybe Cat feels comfortable with ownership since he believes the new owner can sign off on some major signing bonuses. Incoming 8 years $8 million extension?

How weird that the guy who was constantly complaining about the lack of Chipotle franchises, how he can't get his preferred brand of ginger-ale, and how he was confused by having to read temperatures in Celsius doesn't want to live in Canada.

Strong possibility was the wording used, that DBC moving at the draft. Tweet didn’t even get the wording right.

I also assume he means by the draft.

Since I expect the plan will be to trade DeBrincat for futures and then use those futures to acquire immediate help (probably Laughton), I think he could be dealt long before draft day.

Yep strong possibility like Bruce said in the Sun today.

DBC plus to Philly for two pieces the Sens need such as Hart & Laughton makes a lot of sense for us anyway. It make likely be a three way deal as well. However, they could also come to terms & sign DBC & just go out & pick up a UFA goalie for next season. I prefer option one, Hart is young & already a very good goalie & Laughton would help our top six with another gritty hard to play against player who could also mentor Norris & Batherson.

It doesn't make sense for Philadelphia or Debrincat at all. Unless you mean we utilize the assets from a Debrincat trade to bring in those two. In any case, it would cost too much and I doubt new ownership will allow Dorion to tinker with the team to that level.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out is what I would say to little Debrincat.
1. Chipotle is terrible food.
2. What sort of product cannot be ordered in bulk online in this day in age.
3. If he learned International System for Units his life would be much easier.

If Philly is trading Laughton/Hart, that means they are rebuilding, which means Debrincat is a poor fit for them.

We could trade Cat to a 3rd team, then use those assets to gets Hart and/or Laughton.

It doesn't mean Philly need to keep him, Hoffman never got on the plane to San Jose, they can always trade him somewhere else & recoup more assets or do a three way .... :naughty:

Please tell me that isn't true....

Well...
DeBrincat is a creature of habit who only drinks Canada Dry ginger ale. Ironically, despite the brand name of his favourite ginger ale, he’s having a hard time buying them in bulk in Ottawa.

“It’s hard to find in stores in a pack. So I have to buy them in singles,” says DeBrincat.

And he admits he was a bit thrown off when reading the Canada Dry label for the first time in this country.

“It’s all in millilitres up here — not in ounces,” adds DeBrincat. ” So I had to look up to see what the right one was.”

Like other American-born players on the team, DeBrincat laments the fact that one of his favourite chain restaurants has only one location at the Rideau Centre in Ottawa.
“It’s hard to get Chipotle here. You have to go all the way downtown,” says DeBrincat.

The speedometer on his vehicle is now set to kilometres.
“And with Fahrenheit to Celsius, I’m getting better at that,” says DeBrincat. “It just takes some time.”

All those are from an Ian Mendes article published in January.

Ottawa had a pretty good recent track record of convincing US born players to stick around long term, going back to Bobby Ryan. Hell even Joe Corvo came back voluntarily lol. So I can’t really blame Dorion for shooting his shot and thinking DeBrincat would be the same.

So it’s not the owner now, it’s the country.

What if we moved Ottawa to Mexico or Finland?
Honestly, I don't see this as being very realistic, probably not the best fit either due to language differences. Maybe if we can join the US as the 51st state would do it? Not sure, worth a shot, still got 2 weeks before draft to make it happen.

He’s clearly an introvert and he’s described himself as a homebody. He’s likely more than most a creature of habit. I can see living in a different country being a stressor for him, where it might be an adventure or interesting challenge for most others.
Agreed. It’s a shame because I feel like Ottawa would be a place he’d love if he was here for longer.

Riddle me this- since ADC can be re-traded at the TDL why wouldn't his value be half decent to a bubble team that might want to give things a shot and then flip him and retain if they don't meet a certain points threshold by March and/or they can't resign him? CBJ for example who seems to be going for it.

This out for bubble teams combined with the contenders that are interested in him should drive his value up, no?

I would think at the TDL he is worth a mid to late first, why are we not expecting more now considering there are more suitors? And we can take salary back in the form of a player so it's not his QO that is a major deterrent. I don't quite see why his value is pegged at TDL levels at this point.

There are definitely way less suitors now than at the deadline, where teams are fine trading for a rental as the season is already 3/4 done and the teams know if they are in or not.

Teams generally don’t want to buy and sell a few months later, it makes very little sense. Especially when a 9 million dollar contract completely throws a cap into chaos.

That's gotta be some humour there

Canada Dry ginger ale is the only pop I drink (only thing I'll mix in rye too) and you can buy it by the case literally anywhere
