I doubt the DBC camp is waiting to see who the new ownership group is, what do players care about that, the vast majority of their interaction is with each other not ownership. It's not like DBC is Crosby or McDavid, it's going to be Tkachuk, Stutzle, Giroux, Norris & Chabot that will likely have more interaction with ownership.

I think eventually DBC & Ottawa will come to a resolution, but Ottawa still needs to find a #1goalie & add a little muscle to it's lineup. IMO they need to move on from Brannstrom, Joseph, Gambrell, Kelly & maybe Gauthier although of these 5 I think he has the most potential to break out with the right linemates.
I wanted to like this but I don’t agree with the Branny opinion! Everything else though.

They list me in the first statement, stating conjecture as fact followed by “as we all know”.

But that other new article on their site, about how NHL has proven itself to be rigged, I’ll have to dig into that one!

It’s irrelevant where DBC wants to go unless it comes with an extension.

Dorion will simply move him for the best offer. Is it likely it comes from a team on his preferred destinations? Maybe we don’t know yet but will find out soon enough

perhaps PD can tailor a contract extension that suits a team of his choice, to get the return he wants, and do a sign and trade?

It’s very possible and I would love that as it would increase the return, but from everything that’s being presented in the media I’m not sure that’s the case

Both parties may want this, but do any of the teams? Detroit is interesting, but so is Nashville (their acquired futures perhaps?)

The issue with this type of trade is you pretty much end up receiving the value of 1 year rental of Debrincat.

If DBC decides that he doesn't want to sign with any team interested in him but Detroit, then these other teams will only be interested in paying a rental price to Ottawa. If Detroit knows that then they will only offer slightly more even knowing that he would sign with them in theory. That's why Dorion doesn't want DBC to negotiate with other teams or talk contract with them because that might give more leverage to a team like Detroit for example.

They need to trade him sooner than later because you don't want to be at the deadline needing to trade away a key guy in your top 6. It's a tough position Dorion put himself in unfortunately by giving up so much for 1 very average year of a guy that played a complimentary role in the top 6.

Dorion is pretty much in a lose lose situation. I expect the return to be quite poor

Hopefully just use it to extend Sanderson and Chychrun when the time comes
I think we need to use it now personally. Top 6 forward and 2 3rd line Fs and a goalie.

When Sanderson and Chychrun are up, the cap should also be up, so we'll be in a more flexible position.

I just prefer Dorion not sign any FA to avoid screwing it up

What we need is one of three things from this situation ...
1. Re-sign DBC
2. Get a bigger, younger, tough, hard to play against player who also has someoffence to his game (Laughton)
3. an established #1 NHL goalie who can stay healthy

Nick Foligno UFA would be an interesting choice to bring back for a bottom six role & mentoring, he's basically free this summer.
He's got most of the boxes checked DJ would like, hard to play against, tough, hits & can score, good leader & mentor, former captain

Foligno's best before date has passed. Didn't work in Toronto or Boston. Too many lingering injuries despite his solid character.
