I can’t help but feel that how Dorion handles this situation and the return he gets for the big splash acquisition he made last off-season a short 11 months later will determine his future with the club and likely the league.

No pressure Pierre.

It's not Heatley bad but it's definitely a bit of a slap in the face given how he seems to be unwilling to even give this much of a chance.

Is this team and city really so bad?

If Norris' shooting ability hasn't been affected by his shoulder injuries, DeBrincat would likely be back to PP2 next season if he extended here. It's not like Stutzle is going to be bumped to PP2.

Why would he re-sign in one of the least attractive UFA destinations (right or wrong) for Americans just to play on the 2nd line and the 2nd PP?

There have been like 30 instances that were supposed to determine Dorion’s future.

Unfortunate news but gotta make the most of it. Trying to think of a paste trade to compare this too.

One that comes to mind is the Silfverberg + Early 1st + I believe it was Neosen who was a late 1st a year prior for Bobby Ryan.

The Sens obviously won't get this type of package for DBC but I would be over the hill with a DeBrincat for Silfverberg type player + late 1st/2nd

Getting a cost-controlled two-way winger who is young-ish would be lovely and makes our future cap structure a lot less daunting.

If I were him, sitting behind the top line on a non-playoff team with career-low slumps in goals and shooting percentage, I might reconsider the fit too.
It’s really the least surprising news possible.

As soon as we went into the season without an extension, it should have been glaringly obvious he would be looking to test the market.

If he was open to signing an extension, he’d have signed an extension that was no doubt pitched to him after the trade.

Some Blues fans seem to be ok with a Kyrou/Debrincat swap. I don’t expect us to get that good of a return, unless there’s something about Kyrou I’m missing.

DBC did nothing wrong. He was traded for, against his wishes, and played out his contract.

It doesn’t take much to see he wasn’t looking to sign here long term, that’s on the team trading for him, not DBC.

Now he let the team know he’s not willing to sign here, before the draft. He’s given the team more than enough time.
My issue is we should have sorted this all out at the trade deadline, or you know, before trading for him in the first place.

All that said, trading for DeBrincat was more than just about the on ice impact, it brought some excitement to the team that really helped this team market itself, while it's a bust in terms of the assets we gave up, I think it still had a positive impact overall.

We’d take that and run I’d think.

Don’t think GM’s place the value that some fans seem too. Blues certainly won’t be trading away a guy they just signed to an 8 year deal 6 months ago.

So now that it’s out there from his agent that he’s not going to be discussing a contract with the Sens, what do we think the package looks like?

Going to say a pick, 2nd line tweener and B prospect
Tough to say without knowing his preferred destinations.

Wait... you don't like the player because he's small and slow, but you like that we traded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for one year of that same small and slow player?
Yeah, I don't like the player because he is small and slow. Telegraphs passes like no other.

But a lot of people do like him , and he is a huge commodity out there. I personally don't like him on this team. I really couldn't figure out how good he really is because he played with no expectations in Chicago. When there was pressure to produce, he caved badly in November

Trade proposal with Detroit.....

To Detroit: DeBrincat, Greig, Thomson
To Ottawa: Kubalik, Edvinsson, and a third round pick.
