Can't blame Debrincat for wanting to see where the dust settles before considering a long term deal.
Looks like he is on his way out. Hopefully PD doesn't do a Duchene or Stone deal!

The challenge with dealing Debrincat is he's probably not all that attractive considering the other options that may be available.

If you're a team like Carolina or Colorado, I bet you're way more interested in Dubois. And if you're a big market like LA, you'd probably rather wait and see what happens with Matthews and/or Nylander.

Reading through other team forums, no other fanbase has all that much interest.

I think potential destinations will be slim. Washington seems like the best bet if we take back Mantha.

Don’t know about that. I’d think there would be a good amount of interest. Should be paid $7.5-8 though. That’s an issue.

Lol well that quote seems pretty damn clear that moving him is the only option if he's informed them he won't discuss a long term deal. No other choice.
I like the new "We negotiate through the media" motto.

But yah.. He's just playing it out. He has to move him and use the freed up $ to try to improve the team. Quality depth is available. Can he identify it and not overvalue the potential contributions of the Andrew Browns etc.. If only he'd recognize that he needs help.

I think the market for DeBrincat will only be slim if he's intent on going to Detroit or back to Chicago and isn't interested in signing a long-term contract with a different team.

With so few quality young-ish forwards available via UFA there should be a decent market for him.

Dubois seems intent on going home to Montreal, so he's likely a 1 year rental. Toronto isn't trading Matthews or Nylander. The alternatives as far as top line forwards available for trade may be Scheifele and maybe Kuznetsov. All are centers, which may not be a fit for a number of teams.

Should be fun...

Well they dont have the cap space for that. Both of those guys are better fits on the sens with what they currently have on the roster. They dont need Debrincat. They have plenty of players that can provide a similar skill set. They need to get much heavier and harder to play against.

Are you watching these playoffs and believe Debrincat would be a more effective player than Barbashev in a playoff series?

I'm watching Jonathan Marchessault tear it up in these playoffs. There is no reason DBC can't do the same. I have also seen Barbashev do nothing for most of his playoff career.

Beware the 3rd liner who has a breakout postseason. This is how terrible contracts are born. This guy had 9 points in 50 playoff games coming into this season including 2 in 12 games last year. He is a major reason the Blues lost in the 2nd round last year. He's playing great this year but, man, I would not want to hitch my wagon to this guy. It would be a pretty big gamble.

And different help. It is so frustrating that we're going into another offseason with Jim Clark leading the pro scouts. How many years of terrible results does this guy get?

I think Barbashev is a perfect example of the short sample size of the playoffs creating BS narratives about who is and isn't a "playoff choker" or "playoff warrior"

There is more certainty in signing Debrincat long-term than Dubois.

Are you honestly ignoring that Tolvanen makes 1.45M and DeBrincat will make 7.5-9M?

Low.

Chances that Hall waives his NTC to come to Ottawa? Even lower.
Tolvanen: 41 career goals
Debrincat: 187 career goals.

Gee, I wonder why one guy is on track for an 8yr/$8M+ AAV contract and the other guy was on waivers this year????
