Hopefully we end this bullshit never-ending sale process and sign this kid long term before the draft.
Gotta trade him now and try to recoup whatever you gave up for him
You watching this game right now and really think you want to play a player like him 8.5 to 9 million? He would be an absolute none factor. Spend the money on Barbashev or Bertuzzi.Hopefully we end this bullshit never-ending sale process and sign this kid long term before the draft.
There is no way the sens are getting Necas back for Debrincat that makes no sense for Carolina they are trying to win now. Secondly he is a more dynamic player than Debrincat younger has more cost control. The sens need to replenish the prospect pool and fill out the roster's depth. The team is so easy to play against. Get some picks and prospects from them and use the money elsewhere. Sens Twitter is lost in what they think they are going to get back for Debrincat. His value is less than last year whey would he return more?I was looking at Carolina as a potential partner, they are set up to be able to offer him a contract extension which would probably put them in the running.
Issue is they don't have a tonne of NHL-ready talent that they would be willing to give up/we should trade for. Ideally it would be centered around Jarvis or Necas, but I think they want to keep Jarvis long-term and I'm hesitant to trade for Necas based on a breakout season.
Would maybe do something like:
DeBrincat + Brannstrom/JBD/Thomson
for
Necas + Morrow/Nikishin/Seeley + 2nd
Unfortunately they're very loaded up on NHL D and after the Chych trade I don't think that's where we'd be looking to add.
All you guys said I was wrong when I said they should have traded him at the trade deadline. Now how does everyone feel. This has got to be Dorions 9th life and it hilariously ends with a cat. How on earth do you make that deal without an extension in place.

Well they dont have the cap space for that. Both of those guys are better fits on the sens with what they currently have on the roster. They dont need Debrincat. They have plenty of players that can provide a similar skill set. They need to get much heavier and harder to play against.I'd take Bertuzzi or Barbashev on top of keeping DBC, but not as replacements. DBC is a solid player who had a down year and we'll never find a better top-6 guy.
For sure, I don't care either, but management will never do it is what I meant. Especially not with how badly this team needs to make it in next year. Could even be a repeat from this year where they're "in it" enough not to sell, we keep him AND don't make it in. Personally, I'd prefer to just move him now if he won't sign. We're at a point where quality secondary assets are starting to be a bit scarce, and offence is the least of our issues, so I say re-stock a couple assets and move on with the cap space.Meh I don't care about the optics. It feels you always get better value out of a trade at the deadline vs the summer.
Maybe Debrincat gets sold on the team when they are in a playoff spot and the vibes are good and re-ups? If not thats fine move him at 50% and get a first rounder and a good prospect and replace him with a downgrade from another team. If we are are in a playoff spot its going to be because of Timmy and Brady making guys like him look good and not vice versa.
Pretty straight forward and obvious. Giroux is better on the PP anyway and they have Norris coming back. Pinto is also just getting started is a righty with a great shot. He never made sense to trade for in the first place with the roster make up.I don’t get the hand wringing over Debrincat. He’s a complementary player who is going to make way too much to be a 2nd line, 2nd PP guy. Just move him for whatever and take the cap space as the main asset.
Pressure was on Dorion when they upped his budget and he wasted it on Debrincat.Pretty straight forward and obvious. Giroux is better on the PP anyway and they have Norris coming back. If he knew he was getting Giroux it never made sense. Maybe he didnt know but I find that highly unlikely. This should be the nail in the coffin for Pierre unless he does something incredible like get an amazing return on Debrincat in the form of picks and prospects then finds a way to use the money on Bertuzzi, Barbashev and a goalie. Team gets way better and replenishes the prospect pool.Pressure was on Dorion when they upped his budget and he wasted it on Debrincat.
I don’t like it either, but the optics and option can help keep the summer/draft offers more honest.I don't see that bringing DeBrincat back on a 1-year deal really benefits the Senators. You're just creating a situation where you likely watch him walk for nothing.
Ottawa should not be in a position to sell players at next season's deadline - there is no way a probable bubble team trying to snap a six year playoff drought should be doing that. Even if they were willing to deal him, you're stuck getting a standard futures package for a rental [1st, 3rd, mediocre prospect type deal]. Contenders won't touch their roster at the deadline which is bad because we need an NHL body coming back.
He has to go in the next ~3 weeks. Dorion can get a deal that better fits our needs, plus he gets more cap space to address other issues.
Vegas has Brett Howden in their top 6 right now and are up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. We don't need 6 All-Stars in the top 6 to be competitive. Norris and Batherson can carry a 2nd line on their own just fine, just need a guy who doesn't slow them down.I'd take Bertuzzi or Barbashev on top of keeping DBC, but not as replacements. So Vegas just has top-6 players forwards playing on their third line? Sens can easily just slot in Batherson or Giroux on on the 3rd line and plug in a 3rd liner in the top 6.Vegas has Brett Howden in their top 6 right now and are up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. However, take a look at Vegas' 3rd line. Significantly better than ours. Taking DeBrincat's cap hit and putting that towards two middle 6 players instead could be the better move.
I think he fits well with the group, but DJ’s system and/or not playing with an elite distributing player doesn’t optimize his weapons. That’s why I wonder whether we roll with the same coaching staff is a significant factor for him. But hey, I know nothing, and I’m in the sign him long term camp.Trading for DBC without an extension was only going to be a success if:
- he fits well within the group and extends with the team at a reasonable amount
- he doesn't extend but puts us over the edge and we make the playoffs twice thanks to him.
Neither scenario is likely at this point...
DeBrincat's one-timer snapshot is how he scored so many goals with Chicago, but obviously he wasn't going to get as many perfect set-ups as he did playing with Kane.
Was shocked watching his highlights how much Kane factored into DeBrincat's goal totals last year on absolutely perfect passes.
The Senators are preparing for every scenario with the two-time 40-goal scorer because his agent Jeff Jackson has informed the organization DeBrincat isn’t ready to discuss a long-term contract extension right now, league sources confirmed to Postmedia on Monday.
Hopefully the "small players will get crushed in the playoffs" isn't as loud this summer after Marchessault has lighten it up and we get a good return.
What terrible management though. Two top ten picks during a rebuild that will end up being Tyler Boucher and, likely, an overpaid 2nd liner and mediocre prospect. Can't happen.
Could be worse . Stutzle Sanderson, Tkachuk all hit really good .

Sure. Hopefully they can at least become a playoff team. It's a big TBD if they'll have the supporting cast they need to actually contend.
3 good players does not make a top team. Vancouver hit on all of Horvat, Pettersson, Hughes and Demko, but have proceeded to do shit all as a team.
