Business will definitely not be operating as usual until new ownership comes in.
None of the new owners are dumb, they know that there are deadlines and extensions that need to be taken care of. It's all part of the preparations that goes into acquiring a business with major deadlines right when the winner of the bid will be announced.

Besides, it's old ownership until it's new - and they've already shown they want a small percentage of the team, so again, go forth and negotiate.

They aren't dumb, they will have done their homework well before, and have plans to hit the ground running as soon as they get the keys.

The board that is currently in charge, that Dorion would 100% need backing from to make this kind of deal, isn't going to be approving any big financial deals in the days before ownership is transferred. Any big financial deals will be done after the sale.

If there was an uncertainty of a deal being done in the near future, there would be leeway. We know a sale will be done in the coming weeks.

It's hard for us to know the specifics, but I think the board would approve that knowing well in advance that the prospective buyer of the franchise also knows that this is a going concern and that this deal either must get done now - or that the Senators don't want the deal period.

I also think a winner has been quietly told and that it's likely Michael Andlauer who knows exactly what holding up the signing of a star player could mean to his team and will (also quietly) reach out to Dorion and green light it.

Although, again, no one really knows what the keys to this situation is, I believe this is the case.

If Andlauer has been told, he's already been linked to replacing Dorion from the get-go with Staios, or at the very least looking in a new direction, whom may have a very different opinion on what to do with DBC and 60 million than Dorion.

An 8 year deal, when it's very possible a new GM sees the team a different way, makes absolutely no sense for new ownership right now.

If he's linking himself to a new GM, then I agree.

I'd imagine every single owner are looking at bringing in their own guys rather than a lame duck GM that's been in house for the past 15 years.

Andlauer/Staios is the only one that's been brought forward by a guy like Seravalli thus far.
The timing of this whole thing is so stupid. Such an NHL way of doing things. Let's make the drop dead date as CLOSE to the draft as humanly possible, why could go wrong?

The new owner should have been in place May 1st, end of story.

DBC just posted a story on IG wearing a Pistons hat. Maybe he's changing sports altogether!

What do the Sens look like without DBC? They lose a potential 40 goal scorer, they lose an amazing puck handler & playmaker & they create a big hole in their top six who helps other players produce pts. If they decide to trade DBC what do they get back? Picks & prospects won't cut it for a few yrs if they expect to challenge for a playoff spot next yr, so this isn't ideal.

Could they get an equivalent player on D or in net? Maybe, but we already have four good defencemen slated for the top 4 on D & at least 3 more decent D waiting in the wings. Could they get a #1 goalie? Sure but Ottawa has had problems in net for quite a while with injuries or poor performance & you never know with goalies. Should they take another big chance on another goalie with such a good asset? This one is a toss up, but I would rather keep the good asset I have & find another way to get a goalie & the UFA market always has good goalies available. As long as the team in front of the goalie play good defensively the goalie doesn't need to be great but he does need to be consistent.

What if they keep DBC & give him a contract that pushes Ottawa closer to the cap? Well isn't that what people have been wanting on here for quite some time for the Sens to spend to the cap? Keeping DBC means the Sens will have two top lines who can produce like #1 lines & as long as they stay relatively healthy should carry this team next season to a playoff berth.

It also allows the team to move Pinto to the 3rd line which is the beginning of improving that 3rd line to be more of a production line as well as energy line or matchup line. They already have the players to insert into the bottom six which would IMO be a huge improvement over last season. Keeping DBC assures stability & a steady scoring production which allows management to improve other areas which is what I believe they are doing. As long as DBC demands are not crazy & can fit into their salary structure I think they should keep DBC, they can always trade him later if need be & he helps the team win.

I’d like to see him without a rookie centre who isn’t known for playmaking.
If they sign him the 2nd line will likely be DBC - Norris - Batherson & DBC has done well with Batherson so has Norris. I imagine both DBC & Batherson will be getting it to Norris a lot for that one timer, all 3 could hit 60 to 70 pts next yr.

They will get more out of Norris than they loose in this guy.
I don't see how they can afford him without moving one of the other four that make 8+

Watching these playoffs is a reality check as it is every year. I don’t see Debrincat being an 8M player come playoff time. It’s not like we need him on PP1 and he struggled at even strength this season. Tough decision to make but I think we should move him.

Never sell low on a player of this calibre. Stick him on Stutzle's wing next year and watch him get 50/50/100.

Dorian, on "Locked on Senators", said basically, "We should know, in the next 10 days, where we are with Alex."
(LoS posted today.)

Ask yourselves this - if DeBrincat was signing here, would the GM be on a podcast speculating on his future here? Let's be honest - there is absolutely zero indication that the two sides are working on an extension, and DeBrincat gave zero indication throughout the season that he was inclined to sign one. He wants to either hit UFA in a year, or sign an extension in a place more to his liking. That's his right as a veteran player, and it's the risk we took in acquiring a guy in his contract situation.

The only thing to do here is trade him at the draft and try to recoup our initial investment. I'm pretty sure we can do that - Carolina and Colorado are in win-now mode and will be looking for scoring, while Detroit has the cap space and some prospects. (I've always felt like Debrincat has been angling to go home to Michigan.) We can then pocket the picks and prospects, or turn around and flip them for some immediate help.
