Said he enjoyed the season, talked about how great of a group they have. Has some stuff to figure out before making a decision. Ian asked him to assess the season, the answer Debrincat gave wasn't one with the perspective that he had played his final games with Ottawa.
Thanks.

Gamblers fallacy. May have been what happened with Bobby too.

If we get Formenton back at 2M, put another 6M on goalie/D, and recoup a young prospect with a 2nd for him I'm happy.
Gamblers fallacy is when someone doesn't understand the difference between odds of multiple events and single events. Example, if a roulette table comes up Black ten times in a row, a person suffering from gamblers fallacy would think red is "due" while not understanding that its still 47.34% to 47.34% (5.32% of Green). Hitting 11 spins on black BEFORE the first 10 would be incredibly low odds.

What you are describing is "Sunk Cost Fallacy".

I learn this the hard way. Was playing Roulette with 25$ the other day. practicing the martingale strategy. Got myself up to 750$ and ended up losing it all just doubling up hoping for the next one to hit and get it all back :(

Can someone paraphrase? I don't subscribe.
“I’m definitely going to need some time, but being around these guys is awesome,” DeBrincat said with his eyes darting around the locker room. “I really enjoyed every second of the year. I’ve made a lot of good friends this year. It’s a great group of guys and we had some fun in the city too, so it was a great year overall.”

DeBrincat then added, “I’m going to have to take time to figure stuff out, but I had a blast this year.”

I hope this allowed, but I shared DeBrincat’s direct quotes from the article above because they are in stark contrast to the doom and gloom we got 2 weeks later. Had DeBrincat answered this way at the year end interview, this whole Debrincat wants out narrative might have not started.

Thanks for this.

I probably shouldn't have snickered, but "his eyes darting around the room [furtively]", amused me.

Debrincat really emphasizes how he needs time in his last couple interviews. Complete speculation on my part, but sounds to me like he has a wife that still needs convincing before committing to Ottawa long term.

When recently asked about a move to Ottawa to support Alex

How many multi season 40 goal season guys are there under 5'10 in the league?
They didn't trade for him for his height, they traded for him in spite of his height.

The guy can play, he had an off year, on a new team with a brand new baby at home.

Imo our top 6 looks way better with him in the lineup than without.

Obviously its prefered to get him under 8 mill if possible, but we don't really have anyone to replace him in the top 6. If he was 7x7 it would help, but you gotta think if he doesn't wanna long term deal with us, he's gone at the draft
on a bullshit Chicago team that was there to entertsain, not win. Look at his +/_ and those of Kane.

Check out Chicago's attendance since 2017..droping like a stone.

When you are pre-occupied with entertainment, you offer offense... Can you say Rick Vaive and the Leafs of the early 80's.. Ditto for another 600 examples.

The Sens do not need to entertain.. they need to win. Play sound defensive hockey (his -30 +/- is what????)

Cut bait now... Dorion needed his head examined for the stunt he pulled.

Maybe "needing time" means he needs more time to talk to his family & agent & figure out what is the best move for him & his family & has nothing to do with the coach. There is plenty of time before next season gets under way to make a decision on where he plays next yr given this season isn't over yet.

Yeah, the coach isn’t the problem, his deployment was fitting, and his play was generally solid/excellent.

The only problem with him this season was that he missed the net or hit the post more than usual. You could easily add 10 goals to his total with a fraction of his missed chances over the season.

He is self described as a low key, homebody, family guy. It is most likely that he is simply being honest and wants to talk to his wife and decide where the next step should be as a family. Sounds like something most of us would do no?

That COULD be true. It would be a diplomatic way to say in public that he's waiting for a new coach.

Or maybe a way of stalling until new ownership is in place. And what the plan is from new ownership.

If I was a player, it would be hard to sign long term with a team that is in flux like that. I'd want to see who the new owners are first and determine how much ownership is into the $$$ land deal, and how much they're into a winning hockey program and long-term stability and success for the franchise, before committing most of my playing career to them.

Agreed.

DBC seems like a smart dude. He might be thinking that far ahead.

Those new owners could in fact jump into the negotiations with DBC themselves, selling him their vision of where the team is going, new facilities and catering, marketing and endorsement opportunities, a new stadium downtown. I imagine a Ryan Reynolds-led ownership team should be able to make Ottawa a much more desired destination than it has been thus far.

And that's a big part of it. Do you want to be a core player with an ownership group that is 100% focused onhockey and being a destination and having Reynolds expanding your footprint as a marketable commodity by being in whatever social media/tv series he's planning...or do you want to be fodder for billionaires who only cared about getting some premium land for pennies on the dollar and can't tell the difference between a hockey puck and a baseball?

Whichever group buys this team will set how this organization functions and our identity as a team (and potentially city) for decades.
