Giroux wants to come home to play for the Sens: "oh how classy, it's awesome for the city, the team, and the league, you really love to see it!"

DeBrincat wants to come home to play for the Wings: "**** him, classless piece of **** HOW DARE HE NOT WANT TO LIVE IN RENFREW!"

I agree with this 100%.

I think a lot of Senators fans are completely irrational when it comes to their perception of ADB.

It's hard for us to complain about ADB wanting to play somewhere else when Claude Giroux comes here specifically to play here.

Love seeing Detroit sit at 5-1 with DeBrincat rocking it. So early still, but the league is always a little better when Detroit is a good team.
I feel sad that I’ve grown out of my Red Wings jersey (with equipment on). I’ve loved that team ever since I got the chance to follow them when Fedorov was there doing his magic. The Larkin-Cat connection will be a handful for the league this season.

can’t wait to see what he does in the playoffs!

Maybe he’ll shed the label of regular season player
He has played a total of 9 games in the playoffs for the Blackhawks and was productive (2 goals and 4 assists for a total of 6 points with a +4).

I am looking forward to him and Larkin leading the Redwings deep into the playoffs maybe with Kane as a linemate.

Detroits goal horn sounds different they must have changed it

Sounds like Panthers horn

Yep. They have a new one that is made similar to the old one at the Joe. They weren't able to use the old one for safety reasons as it used a gas/chemicals that aren't allowed anymore. Now they engineered a new one that can be used differently. Since LCA opened they had been using just a recording of the old one, which obviously sucked in comparison.

You’re telling us that the Red Wings are going deep into the playoffs?

I have bookmarked this post.

Bro, it's just getting sad at this point. Take the 'W', enjoy the player - but it's time to move on.

As the old saying says, 'its better to never meet your heros'
Sad? The tears of Sens fans are sad, yes. lmao yes, it's me that needs to move on. Not the countless Sens fans, including you, who are incapable of letting this go. I am quite happy about how this all played out, doesn't seem like you are at all.

One was a UFA nearly the end of his career while the other...

Maybe not this year. But hopefully in the next few years. We still have a ton of young talent in the pipeline to help make that dream possible potentially for many years to come.

Nevertheless I think we will be buyers in the tradeline this year and I trust Stevie's judgement to help make it so.

But that seems almost entirely down to personality and him not wanting to show up and play for Ottawa, not a lack of opportunity or surrounding talent. So, while I agree that moving him was the only move, I’d still be annoyed. It’s great he’s such a good player when motivated. It’s annoying he would be that selective about who he tries for.
I don’t think that it’s that simple. Players thrive in the right circumstances, because they are human. I don’t think that any player would deliberately underachieve when there are life earnings at the stake.

Sometimes I feel like people on these boards think of players as robots or chess pieces, but they are not. There are a million examples of athletes in team sports that have got rejuvenated when they’ve been put in a position that has worked for them. It’s not like they aren’t trying to make the most of the opportunities that they are given (usually, at least).

so players have a moral obligation to be willing to re-sign with their current team long term even if they were traded to it?

want someone to blame for the DeBrincat situation? it's Ottawa's GM for not bothering to find out if he actually wanted to be there before trading for him instead of afterwards
How exactly would Dorion have gone about speaking to Debrincat about that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure teams can just call up a player under contract with another team and ask them if they would be willing to sign long term. It definitely would not have been in Chicago's best interest to give him permission to speak to the Sens prior to the trade.

Sure, because he was arbitration eligible. Of course the Sens could have kept him for this year. Alex made his intentions clear and Dorion was not left with much of a choice.

it's not like his contract status was a secret

Ottawa knew exactly how long there was until he was going to hit UFA when they chose to trade for him in the first place

not when they had someone like Dorion willing to trade them a top 10 pick without it sure

most GMs aren't that stupid though
