Lucky for us we have at least 2 more of them in case we wanna go that again this year.

Yup.

I feel like it needs to be said (and this isn't directed at you), that it's possible for us to make an observation that we overpaid to get Fox, without being upset about it.

It's an aggressive move by Gorton, which seems to be his M.O. for this rebuild, and it is very likely an overpayment based on all of the information that we've been bombarded with about Fox wanting to be here since his Calgary days.

Fox though, is worth much more than what we traded for him, and nobody is disputing that.

I'm glad that we have him now, and honestly, I find it reassuring that Gorton stays true to attacking the guys he wants like this. It demonstrates that he has a clear vision with little to no wavering. He tried it for Keller and Pettersson, did it for K'Andre, has now done it with Fox, and had expressed interest in moving up before we won the lottery this year.

11th? 10th? I mean it entirely depends on who drops, and if they'd be a good get at 9 they'd be a good get at 13.

It wouldnt be Kreider + pick for better pick, it'd be Kreider + pick for Guy Who Fell They Love, yanno?

I get the premise and mostly agree with it. I just think Kreider +18 is on the high side for something like 14.

Like I said zero reason to trade shatty a perfect mentor for these offensive righty Dmen. And Smith in his role as super bench player is fine too at this point. We don’t need to find more cap space.

If you can’t trade shatty keep him.

Pionk is the guy that makes me nervous. Please trade him. He’s awful. Does management know that is the question.

I just don't understand why we can't acknowledge that we clearly overpaid for the situation while still being fine with the move.

Why are these two things somehow incompatible?
Agreed. We all love getting Fox but there is nothing wrong with saying we probably jumped the gun a bit too quickly.

If you were upset about the picks you should already be over it. Not that big a deal. We got the guy we’ve all wanted for years.

Agreed totally. That's why Brooks talking about buying Shattenkirk out makes no sense to me at all. If you can't trade him, keep him as a 3rd pair veteran presence guy.

Not a rush, just think we’re probably at the ideal crossroad.

If we don’t move him, we don’t move him. But for what the Rangers have expressed interest in doing in this draft, I think he’s the likely cost.
Yeah I get that. I just feel like he is a good piece to have as long as he isn’t asking for a huge deal. He had a good year and if he hadn’t gotten injured he would of scored like 35 goals I feel like many fans were getting on him for being lazy when he really was just playing through an injury

How does Fox compare to Makar?

The former is a master of deception who uses the ice with his mind and passing ability the latter is a gifted skater that can stretch the zone and dangle left and right.

makar and fox are similar size.

Different players. Makar is Karlsson esque in terms of style. Foxy is more like Barrie meets Ellis.

ESPN Top 50 Prospects:

#11 - Kravtsov
#30 - Fox
#33 - Shestyorkin
#37 - Miller

Yummy

#2- Kakko

How does anyone know if we jumped the gun? Had we not made the move he could have went somewhere else, and there was no guarantee he would definately sign here. About 70 percent of the league is looking for rh dmen. I'd say we guaranteed we got him instead of leaving it to chance. If that was the cost of acquiring the asset for sure we did the right thing.

Probably. But we may be a playoff team in 2 years if the talent grows up fast.

IF a lot of things go well, maybe. All of our prospects/youngins develop how we'd like them to, vets have career years, team stays healthy etc.. If I had to put money on it I would guess the team returns to the playoffs in the 21-22 season, seeing that many of our kids will have another 2 years of experience under their belts, not to mention our coach.

An interesting point raised on the 'Canes board, BTW (where I lurked, but did not comment out of respect). Since hockey is a small world, Gorton may not have wanted to screw Waddell to the wall as hard as he possibly could in such a situation where the player is already holding the team over a barrel.
This was my sense too. No idea, of course. And I trust Gorton. But seems the Rangers have the Canes a break. But I think just the single second-rounder would have been kind enough.

I just hope everyone is able to give the kid some latitude to grow as he is going to make mistakes, he isnt going to light the world on fire most likely in his first year. He is a great pickup though

If he gets beat it's because he will get overpowered. But this is one of the smartest players you could get. IMO say goodbye to the 2020 2nd because Foxy's going to push Pionk and Shatts out of the line-up within 15-20 games.
