I thought he was below mediocre tonight. Struggled moving the puck quickly or cleanly on too many shifts, which is basically his only strength. It also doesn't distinguish him from anyone else on the Rangers D corps tonight though.

Clendening was okay. Wasn't really all that impressive and the coaching staff seemed to spot him. Then again he hadn't played in two weeks or so.

The other issue is the Rangers are getting offense from their D. They're also using forwards on the power play point--such as Brandon Pirri. Skjei has stepped up and played pretty well on the power play too.

McDonagh with 9 points in 13 games prorates to about 56 for an 82 game schedule.
Skjei with 8 points in 13 games prorates to about 50 points.
Holden with 7 points in 13 games prorates to about 44 points.
Even Girardi with 5 points in 9 games would prorate to 45 points over 82 though having missed 4 games already he can only top out at 78--he still prorates slightly over 40.

Will all that continue?--or even some of it? One might even surmise that the defense corps is piggybacking off the 4 lines of offense. Does it matter?

Personally I think the Rangers having 4 lines that can hurt teams is a real problem for opposing defenses and goalies. Maybe not score 5 goals average a game but I think the Rangers are score a lot of goals this year.

he was a little slow making decisions but his positioning was good and he compliments Staal well. not sure what else to expect considering he hasn't played in two weeks

I thought he looked better as the game went on. He was obviously rusty.

I agree thought he made some errors in his own end that fortunately didn't cost the team but being his first game back probably expected him to have a few hiccups in his own end. Overall not bad for first game back and definitely can move the puck out of the zone better than G. Would be ok with platooning them keeping both fresh especially if we don't get any help with RHD via trade

He didnt play his best game last night but you guys take what he does for granted. He moves the puck better than anyone else on our defense. He should be glued together with Staal, perfect partner for him. Absolutely no reason to not have him in the lineup every night.

I'll agree with this one. If putting Clendenning with Staal makes that 2nd pairing stronger, I'm OK with Holden on the top pairing with McDonagh.

Girardi, Klein, and Holden should all be rotating on a regular basis--there is a good chance 2, if not all 3 are gone next season. Clendening on the other hand, is only 23 years old and could actually blossom into what McIlrath couldn't become--a middle pairing defenseman

I don't take what he does for granted, but he just wasn't very good at what he does last night.

The team has been better thus far with Girardi in the lineup than Clendening.

the team played 2/3 of its best games of the year with Clendening in so how is this fair?

i didn't see anything I particularly was impressed by from Clendening last night, but I will also note that the Rangers didn't get any power plays, which is where I think they could have used him the most since he last played.

Last couple of games I asked a couple of reps if Clendening was going to play and I keep being told that there's no way girardi would be scratched and Holden is playing too well to be scratched.

Frankly, I shudder to think what Girardi would have looked like against the Winnipeg speed last night.

it really is unfortunate that Girardi gets exposed vs. fast and skilled players in a league that's built upon speed and skill

it's almost like he's not an NHL defenseman.

(sorry, but Clenedening not playing a second is ****ing stupid)

because the best teams always give ice time to guys who didn't even skate in warmups?

can't wait for Clendening's NYR era to end

this glorification of a career 7th D, that 4 teams have sent away without regret, seems to me unearned and over-the-top

I was snarky and unfair, when before even seeing him play in Blue,
i compared him to Etem

but still seems to me, he is just another marginal NHL D, a Matt Gilroy type

A kid that just turned 24 with less than 60 NHL games is a career 7th D? What kind of logic is that?
