Wait, wait, I know this one! They should bench Ghost and put Trouba in!

I don't think it'd hurt them tbh. Ghost is there for the PP, but Team NA has a bunch of other offensively capable players and Trouba is much stronger defensively and more of a physical player than Ghost. Trouba can also play on the LD, which he did in the juniors with Seth Jones, and at the NHL level with Byfuglien.

Scheif opens up a ton of space for them out there and he's definitely got the talent to make you pay if you leave him open.

Exactly. Perfect winger for that line, as I've said McDavid plays best with power wingers who open time and space. That line was a treat to watch.

It's going to be hilarious watching Bettman proclaim them the greatest hockey nation in the world.

"NA players born after Oct 1 1992...you own hockey"

Pathetic.

No I've spent a total of about five minutes posting about the biggest farce in international hockey history.

A possible Canada vs North America final? Absolutely hilarious. How do any of you keep a straight face?

You know you don't have to watch it, right? This literally affects you in no way, has no impact on your life. It's fun hockey to watch, the NA team is incredibly exciting. I don't see the reason to think that some sacred tradition is being disturbed and that this tournament will shift the Earth off its axis or something stupid like that.

Chill out, there are so many other things to be ticked off about in the world.

Agreed, don't change the lines and see how it does against Russia.

I think Babcock had a quote earlier saying something along the lines of they won so they're not going to be changing the lines. Think NA doesn't have a reason to change anything yet.

Guy is a bit offended that no Canucks made the U23 team. Poor Canucks fans. Maybe in 12 years or so they will get a guy on the U23 team.

They should keep the lines exactly as they are, especially the top 9.

The earth will keep turning but fans have apparently traded in best-on-best hockey for the excitement of seeing Canada play against itself.

This sport deserves the global status that is has. No other fans on earth would support such a farce.

That's the page where they released the last players on the roster and people learned that Matthews made the team.

Even the sportsnet cast were saying he was there not entirely because he deserves to be.

Probably at that moment there were 2 or 3 proven players that could have taken his place.
We can't argue the fact that it's in Toronto, probably has a small factor.

But Matthews has brought it and he is doing great so far.
More great players for the league the better.

He deserve to be picked because of his pedigree and he deserves to play top line because of his play.

I could give two ***** about another tournament showcasing the world's top talents as long as we don't have to deal with the NHL saying the players can't participate in the Olympics. It's strictly entertainment value to me.

This sport deserves more fans. This is good, televised hockey. Watch it for the love of the game. That's what the players are playing hard for.

Or don't watch it. But it's nothing to be so upset about.

Are some still really outraged at the concept of Team NA? These are multi million dollar athletes, some playing without contracts, who are going hard as they can in this tourney. If they meet up with Canada in a final I predict it will be some of the best hockey we've seen in awhile.

The idea of playing against your own country might seem ridiculous but when you really simplify it, it's just competition. The idea of testing yourself against the best is what fuels these guys, and I'm not sure they really care about the tradition of international hockey at this point.

Enough about the legitimacy or value of this tournament. This is a post game thread, discuss the game. If you wish to discuss other matters take them to the appropriate thread. Let's move on.

Team NA has already made me question if I'll ever see a team as fun as this one in a long time.

Ghost was bit of a train wreck defensively, but that might be because other D were quite solid. I think they match up Couturier against Malkin and Ekblad against Ovechkin tomorrow.

People end to learn how Ghost plays. He does take risks yo break up plays before they develop. He steps up into plays to cause disruptions. When he tries to play a boring, sitting back type of game, he becomes non-effective.

No one rags on Parayko for getting knocked off the puck and leading to a goal. But if that was Ghost, everyone would talk about how he can't handle big players.

In the end, he was on the ice for every goal tonight...for and against....4-1 win. The other 2 pairings played Finland even. I take that every night from Ghost. I said it in the regular season that Ghost and Pyro would be a fun pairing to watch....they have not disappointed.

Gotta think NA goes with MM again tomorrow.
Light work and he's used to back to backs in the AHL.
We shall see, i suppose.

Before this tournament began I wasnt a believer in Murray. I thought his cup run was a fluke but boy I was wrong. He is a brick wall out there.

Keep the lines the same. Every single one worked great and had multiple good scoring chances. They all seemed to gel better than previous iterations.

I'm surprised how poor Finland looked. Maybe team NA is just better than I expected, or I overrated the fins. I thought NA would struggle against a well structured team but that wasn't the case at all. NA was just too fast.

I hope NA goes all the way and meets what I'll probably be Canada in the final. That would be a game for the age.

Ps: One day I hope to open a thread that involves team NA that doesn't get derailed by Matthews drama. Seeing trolls constantly provoking Matthews fans with giant inferiority complexes gets old after a while

Not a single Finn with a positive Corsi tonight. Not surprised.

4-1 is flattering for the Finns, they were outclassed all night.

Awesome game by the Kids!

For the first time ever watching Laine play, I gotta say I was expecting more. Heard his name two or three times all game.

I say, let them crash..., er, no, sorry, damn the torpedoes! I've already forgotten this game - we can still make life hell for Sweden and Russia. At least they won't have this crazy forecheck that our defence just couldn't begin to handle. The North will rise again!

North America U23 needs to be a permanent thing. This team is fun. Would add excitement to the game.
