Am I the only one who doesn't think NA has a lot more to prove than dominate a quite young Finnish team? Seems premature to assume the Swedish defence and their team play won't stifle a lot of what NA forwards did against Finland, or that the Russian forwards won't expose the defence a bit more.

Finland has 3 defence who have mostly played their North American careers in the AHL as well.

Still, they look really good. Murray looks as sharp as he did in the post-season too.

Well that was a bloody murder.

Finland was bad, but team NA was great. No ifs or buts. I don't think I've ever said bad things about Matthews, but he played really well. 3rd star is a legit achievement. And McDavid is insanely good.

Off to sleep an hour or two before work. Congrats to young stars, unbelievable team.

Sorry bud. That was a bad one, Finland was dominated completely. Your D were exposed and couldn't match the speed and skill of the NA forwards.

There's still hope. Go out and beat Tre Kronor and Russia, you guys are not finished. Finns fight to the end, you still control your own destiny if you win the next two.

Awesome game by the Kids!

For the first time ever watching Laine play, I gotta say I was expecting more. Heard his name two or three times all game.

He had a few shots and a nice hit, but that entire Finnish team just got dominated tonight. He's got to get used to the smaller ice size, and his teammates have to step up their game as well. Especially Rinne who was kicking out rebounds all night and looking shaky on even routine shots. Hard to say whether Finland showed up in the 3rd or team NA simply stopped trying as hard, but it was definitely much more competitive in the 3rd.

We need more team NA under 23.

New off-season tournament: NA under 23 vs Europe under 23 in a best of 5 series. Kinda like the Ryder cup in golf.

I think that would be the sexiest hockey we'd ever see.

They're not gonna dominate every team they face, but they were a class above Finland. And Finland is able to roll with the big boys just fine.

The thing about the under 23 team is I don't even think of them as a young team of inexperienced players. Some players on the team have played 150- 200+ NHL games.

Kids today are a lot more NHL ready.

Wish they would do something like NCAA vs CHL, best players under 24.

I'd still play him. He didn't have too busy of a game. Ride your #1.

Yeah, I agree, he's looked rock solid, I was asking for gambling purposes, in Quebec you can basically triple your money betting on a NA regulation win tomorrow :amazed:

Went for it heavily, just hoping Murray is back in

All the D pairs were great tonight. Sorry to Trouba but he isn't coming in after a performance like this, especially being a RHD.

I will say that with the ice being so heavily tilted, it's almost as if Ghost-Parayko were sheltered, as they didn't take a single d-zone start. That won't continue, but they did a marvelous job with what they had so of course they both stay in.

Seth Jones was so damn good tonight. He's such a beast and only gonna get better. Shame during the season that Torts is gonna try and ruin him

I agree Jones was great at shutting down plays and making tape to tape passes. He and Murray are ridiculously good at completing passes without turning it over (helps explain how they had the best corsi numbers tonight). I do think both could actually stand to pass a bit less and fling it on net from the point every now and then - a la Parayko. They only had 3 shots between the two of them.

And I have to say, for all the possibly legit crap we can throw at Torts, his D development record is outstanding. Don't forget who moulded Tanev, McDonagh, Girardi, Staal, etc.. into something more.

Exactly. Perfect winger for that line, as I've said McDavid plays best with power wingers who open time and space. That line was a treat to watch.

Mcdavid will take over for Crosby one day leading Team Canada as soon as perhaps the next Olympic games. It is good to know he has Scheifele as one winger if this is the succession plan. Who the other winger will be? We can only speculate. Lots of time for that.

I have a theory.

Team Finland power has always been they can beat any COUNTRY on a good day, this new contemporary system is ruining it

Eichel was awful again. He needs to sit or something.

He was a beast from what i saw, which was a total of one period of play.

Your eyes need to sit it seems

Sarcasm? I thought he was excellent.

That guy does this literally every game. He also made quite a few appearances on the Sabres board last year to make some similar post. Not sure what his deal is.

Gaudreau just simply is amazing to watch. What a treat for the Calgary fans.

McDavid is Crosby's heir. No doubt about it. He's in the same tier as Crosby and will be the best player in the game. I think anyone who watches him play multiple games thinks the same thing. The funny thing is, they play completely different games and have different skills that make them generational.

Crosby and McDavid will be the best two players over a 20-25 year period. Even if McDavid doesn't take the throne next year, it's inevitable that Crosby will pass the torch to McDavid, and he's a worthy successor. Humble, team first kid. He cares more about winning than points.

Love Scheifele on his wing, McDavid thrives with power forwards. Them being slower actually benefits him, he can fly up the ice and hit his power forward trailing the play. Guys that can win puck battles, control the cycle and drive the net forcing defenders with them are the type of players McDavid thrives with.

Matthews-McDavid-Scheifele are the 2nd best line in this tournament after Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron. Pretty crazy when you consider 2 of them are still teenagers.

Eichel was awesome tonight.

Didn't watch.

At least my favorite country, the team leftovers is still in the tourney.

He's like that every night for the Flames, more often then not even better. The Flames rely on him to drive the play so you will see a lot of D->Johnny passes where he takes the puck forward from the Flames end into the offensive zone. Didn't have to do that tonight. Kid is a star.

mmm...idk if they're leftover compared to the 1st string USA team...Johnny, Matthews and Eichle would be the second line for team USA. Maybe 1st.
