Bring up the post or you're just making things up as Mr. Hindsight. ;)

You weren't asking me, but I will oblige anyway

I want to be clear that I'm not calling Zadina a bust. However, I've prepared myself for that conclusion. I believe all the signs are there. Yes, he does have elite skill and there are very good characteristics that explain why he was viewed as one of the best in his draft class. However, there are some very obvious signs that point to him being a bust. He plays smaller than he is, on the slow side and not strong. His game is very, very one dimensional. When teams scrutinized him, his stock fell. Did the Wings get a steal at 6, or did we just not pick up on what others saw? I'm thinking the latter. We probably should have passed and picked a D.
This one too
To express my view with odds, this is how I see it:
50/50 that Zadina plays in 30+ career NHL games
10% chance that he scores 20 goals in a season.
2% chance he scores 30+ in a season.

So while I don't think he's a bust yet, I view him as a long shot. I don't value his stock any better than a 3rd round flier, basically. The reason I'm so pessimistic is because for someone who was right near the top of his draft class he's shown so very little to be excited about. Where is the dangerous shot? All I'm seeing are the flaws in his game. He has a ton of work to do before he merits another look in the NHL. I think he's presently behind several forwards in GR for a call up.

When I look at the development of players like Larkin and Rasmussen as teens, or even Seider, and I compare that to the track Zadina is on... well, it does not look good for Zadina. Maybe you still believe, but you have to admit he's under-performed to this point. The best thing going for him is perhaps history. I looked back over the last 10 or so drafts prior to 2018 and most of the forwards taken in the top 6 have played 2-3 seasons minimum in the NHL. I'll be very happy if Zadina can get there from where he's at presently.
I wish I had been wrong, but the Zadina koolaid tasted sour to me from very early on. I thought it was a bad pick in 2019 and he never moved the needle enough for me to really change my mind.

Reactions: Snuggs
IMO:
Overrated: Seider
Underperforming draft position: Ed, Raymond, Veleno, Danielsson, berggren
almost guarenteed busts: Cossa, Kasper, Wallinder
Bust: Rasmussen

Not that I'm hyping Kenny's draft record, but sort the 2018 draft by games played or points, and you'll realize neither Joey or Burger are underperforming their draft position. It was a pretty weak draft.

Kasper does have me a bit concerned. I expected to see more preseason. Only memorable thing he did was try to break Mantha's fist with his face.

I think that post was satirical

If Kasper busts that’s a huge L. The 2022 draft was quite good. Savoie who was picked right after him and who I wanted is PPG in the AHL so far this year. Praying he can turn it around.
I need to see 40 or 50 more AHL games before I have an opinion formulated on Kasper. I'd be harder on him if he had more experience on the smaller NA ice, but that's something he's likely to need time getting used to.

Before the draft saw him as a good skating competitive two way forward where the offense is unknown

Still see him that same way

However I do think if he doesn't become a (very) good player for us we should all be allowed to dogpile @OgeeOgelthorpe at a pre-determined time and place.

And that would be warranted.

I haven't had the opportunity to watch Grand Rapids this year but it seems that as a whole the team is not realgud. But at the same time, the Marco Kasper we saw in preseason and at the Traverse City prospect tournament wasn't the same Marco Kasper we saw play for Rogle in the Champions Hockey League, in the SHL, or for the Austrian men's team. The guy was flat out a better player.

I don't know what the hell is going on with him right now. Home sickness? Poor coaching? Poor deployment? Anyone who is watching Grand Rapids on the regular please feel free to chime in.

and ogee would not be able to know of said time and place for even more of a surprise. Has to be fair.

We are seven games into the AHL season. People need to go find a beer or a joint and relax. The rush to plant flags makes this place insufferable at times (especially considering the extremely low consequences of being wrong).
Yeah but if he doesn't have 15 points by now, then wth are we even doing here??

It’s been a couple of AHL games..
A couple AHL games for a guy who missed most of his offseason training with a broken knee cap, is moving to a different continent that has different sized ice and that has the rest of the team struggling offensively.

I'll be expecting Kasper to take off offensively before the end of the season but I'm not expecting it immediately

There's a lot of context missing from the critiques against Kasper here. None preaching patience.

not that I think there's necessarily anything to worry about with Kasper but if he was doing as well in this same sample size as he's doing poorly right now people would be hyping the shit out of him so the sheer hostility people have towards people reacting to small sample sizes the other way always feels so weird to me

Why not both? And why just one beer?

OMG everyone instant gratification much? :DD
Is there any other way to live?

My money says most of the critics are just looking at stat sheets
He was pretty much useless all of preseason including the prospects tournament. I have not watched GR though.

Marco Buster?
Kasper the Invisible Ghost.
