A rebuilding team that outplays opponents regularly...right
I was expecting a few that weren't awful.

And again, this is the fourth season this team is boring af but the first we're potentially getting anything out of it as far as the future.

The process just started and the hockey is already old.

People are aware this team is not good.

You are understating ice tilting. I mean they aren’t even trying to keep it on the DL anymore.

Losing a game 4-2 where it’s obvious that the opponent is better AND gets no help is a lot easier to accept than losing on a power play that should have never happened.

I can’t go along with this being a BAD team when three games have been decided by bad calls.

I think Namestnikov has looked good since his benching. Hayes looked okay today.

I think it’s about time Quinn settles on Vesey as a 4th line winger and stop giving him top 6 linemates and PP time. It’s a waste really. Let him crash and bang with Lettieri on the 4th line.

Never has been and never will be. It's been been 5 games and it feels like 50 after reading some of these posts.
Yeah you know some people like to say, "New Yorkers will never wait through a rebuild." I always thought that was BS. Now, I'm not so sure. And I didn't even want a full rebuild! But it's here, so let's deal with it.

I'm not Nostradamus, but they were screwed on THREE game-winning goals (I don't count the empty netter as the GW goal in the first game, since it doesn't happen without the 2nd goal). Is it possible that if not for those goals in all three games the other team would have still scored another goal in regulation anyway? Yes. Not that likely. Two, if not all three of those GW goals were scored in the 3rd period too. Also, bull****, this isn't about excuse making, this is about holding these God-forsaken awful at their jobs refs accountable. Why do we only hold the Rangers accountable and not the refs? If the average Joe makes mistakes THIS bad THIS consistently at work he/she would get fired. Why do the refs have no accountability? You're missing the point to sound like this enlightened realist.

A blind man would have felt the vibrations of that snow job.

There was no need for Telekinesis

Right.

I didnt expect to win today, but holy shit! At least make this moon landing believable.

This I would agree with...this process could and should have started two years earlier. But, brass didn't have the balls to do it.

OTOH, the key when rebuilding is to be able to suck enough to really get top talent. We should get a shot at that this season. I am not sold on that the timing would have been right 2 years earlier than we started it.

The problem I see is that this:
(1) We have zero room to try to find any pieces for the future to play in on the blueline. And we have three HUGE commitments on the blueline for THREE more years. How will that synch with the rebuild? Shattenkirk is already way into Beaver territory. Anyone with half a brain knew he would be heading there, but still its like a surprise. Lets say we get Hughes now. FOA pick plays right away and usually does it fairly well. Lias, Chytil, Howden and co are getting older. If we can get a top talent in this draft we should have a team that should be able to grow together and build something in 2-3 years. But we won't even remotely be close to it due to the horrible commitments we have on the blueline.

What you are seeing is the 5th most expensive blueline in the NHL. Today. The game is getting faster. These guys will be as higly paid, while getting slower, while the game is getting faster, for three more full seasons. That is not great.

2. While we have the horrible commitments on the blueline -- we don't have a ton of guys on the way up to replace them. We will have zero room to find any bargains because we can't play them. Someone like Butcher would never sign with us due to all the contracts we have.

3. If it drags on 4-5-6 years we face a very high risk of completely ruining the kids we have.

Gorts MUST start to clear the mess he has created on the blueline.

TBH, it's amazing and ironic how shortsighted and hyperbolic you frequently are despite being known for being analytical and thorough

Im not saying the Shattenkirk signing was smart.

It was a triple down after the Yandle smell.

Pretty sure the refs do have accountability, its just that it's kept in house.
Comparing a referee's job to an 'average Joe's' seems a little on the simplistic (and unrealistic) side. Not that many jobs deal with split-second decision making when their attention has to be on more than one thing at once.

The refs were pretty crappy, especially in the 3rd, but compared to our inability to finish they were a minor issue

The Hayes missed call was not a regular split-second decision. That was blatant and around the puck. That was the worst non-call I can remember.

Rebuild or don't, I'm fine with either one. Don't half-ass it.

Once they traded Brassard they were already putting their teeth into the core of this team and proceeded to kick the can that season and the following season.

Stepan was an atom bomb. Once he's gone the whole thing has to start. Everyone had another year at that point. More value. But they had to try it again.

I understand the process. It's just grating that we're in year 1 of the process and year 4 of having my day ruined.

I don't remember who posted it, but it was around the time that he was dealt that someone here that heard info third hand posted all about him doing awful things to the rookies and young guys on the 2016-17. Vesey was the main target. Same person also posted that Glass fought him and kicked his ass because he was so out of line. Can anyone else back me up on this? I understand it's off topic, but would appreciate.
you mean the fever dream that he made Buchnevich eat too many funions?
lmao

You were shitting coal during President trophy years if not moreso.

Yup. I really don't know what a lot of people expected this year. They are 1-4 and could easily be 3-2 if officiating wasn't so brutal and they could finish. They haven't embarrassed themselves out there except for the 3rd period against Carolina. This may be a very long season but I honestly believe the future is very bright for this team. Chances are we pick up an elite prospect or 2 at the deadline and keep adding to what is becoming a deep prospect pool.
