It’s not that outlandish with the team struggling in a high expectations year, guys like Hannifin and Guentzel possibly on the block, and the depth we have at RD.

But if he gets traded I’ll be crushed.
Makes a lot of sense actually. Not only do we look locked up at RD for the forseeable, we are locked up in terms of PP point men for even longer then that. And if you are not using him on the PP you are not maximizing his abilities.

The better he plays the better the return, but who are we bringing back? Would have to be a high end goalie not making a lot of money. Maybe a high end defensive LHD? Otherwise I'm not seeing the need in terms of filling holes that would warrant trading him.

Devils should stay away from trading Casey for short term solutions. Its a forsberg level trade. If we want to deal him, it should be long term starter or prospect with real potential to be long term starter. Or may be high end LD prospect/very solid and young LD. Casey is RD with top-4/1ppqb potential, its a rare combination. If someone thinks that he doesn't deserve - who cares, save him, until he is ready, try him in the role(who cares about limitation of Dougie, Luke or Simon - all of them are under control). And than watch what we are having and think about what to do next.
Solid defensive defensemen are cheaper on market.

Askarov, or Ullmark, either one PLUS other parts. He’s that good.

Askarov and Ullmark are good, but Ullmark is short term solution. He will sign Hellebyuck deal soon.

Swayman wouldn't be dealt, but if they agree, so why not.
Wallstedt wouldn't be dealt, but if they agree, so why not.
Nikishin wouldn't be dealt, but if they agree, why not.
May be I would think about some prospects with real second center potential, or even some young second line center. I believe Buffalo have something on their list. Their defensive pool isn't really good.

I think the only one I'd trade him for is Wallstedt. For whatever reason I'm not that high on Askarov, although his style as a reactionary goalie would seem to fit how we play. Then again, I was a little disappointed when we drafted Casey, so what the hell do I know about scouting players?

I guess I'd also consider Swayman, but I wouldn't trade Casey for him unless they had a big add. I don't know how much of Swayman's success stems from the team/system he plays in.

Reasonable takes on both. Bruins system is focusing on goalie, they are creating pressure in neutral zone and trying to open some lanes for a shot and close some others. They are working hard to predict rebounds. Its far away from what we are doing on the ice.

We should start with goalie coach changing from the beggining. May be even what we have in goalies is enough, but anyway Swayman isn't on the trade block. They would deal him only for top line center even if they will. Our actual goalie coach could ruin Swayman, Askarov, Wallstedt or even incoming of bioengineering wonder with Brodeur and Hasek DNA in the same person.

Agreed with all points. It’s just that I wouldn’t deal Casey unless it’s an absolute need, and goalie is a big need. A scoring winger exists in Buffalo’s system and they need defense, but it helps them more than us.

Casey is too good to exchange for anything but a core young top ten in league goalie - which there are very few of

LOL. I don't want Hanifin for Casey.

Yea has to be a equal value trade for LD or goalie. Anything else, no thanks.

Yeah, Luke and Nemec are locks for full time duties, Casey will get a shot on the right side in due time, I’d say to take Dougie’s spot eventually if it comes to it? Or he’ll be moved for a solid long-term piece.

I would prefer to wait and use him. I don’t believe that really good young goalies are in the trade block. They will figure it out what to do. It’s not a big problem to have too many talented players, Nemec was ”blocked” and it doesn’t look like a problem now.

Exactly. I think the Devils will try and take their time with Casey like they did with Nemec. But he may not make it through a full AHL season before proving he belongs.

I think part of it will depend on how well Hughes and Nemec have progressed by the end of the year. On paper, it’s hard to imagine Nemec, Luke, and Casey all on the team at the same time. But they said that about Nemec and he’s out there outplaying most of the other defensemen every night. There will be a spot for Casey if he shows he’s good enough.
