Marino isn't here forever. Even as a third pair defenseman, you can achive more ice time and money. Ask Sergachyov.

He’ll have to compete with Hamilton, Luke, and Nemec for powerplay time, which could affect his production and therefore earnings.

I’m not saying that he’s going to try to force a trade, just that we are probably not his ideal team.

Did you watch his game, he is very good with control an puck moving and driving the net. As a pp specialist he can easily compete with Bratt, Mercer etc on the right wing spot.

I highly doubt he’s taking Bratt’s spot. Also can’t see them running 4D on the 2PP units so he’s facing an uphill battle. Have to imagine Luke keeps his PP1 spot. For PP2 I think eventually you shift Dougie to the left circle as a shooting option (if it’s not Holtz) Then Nemec up top. I think Casey’s going to have to take what will likely be Nemec spot QBing PP2. Personally I think he’d probably be the better option. Other option likely option would be Holtz takes the left circle spot and then some combo of Dougie/Casey/Nemec as the QB and right circle guys

If he’s just too good to keep out of the lineup, I’m all for doing 7 D and giving him the odd shift at forward just to see how it goes. Imagine sending out Bratt-Jack-Seamus-Luke-Nemec lol.

Next year will be interesting. He’s going to be an NHL caliber D but might end up having to spend most of the year in Utica because of us being stacked.

Bratt spot? Not. Second pp unit "Bratt role"? Easily if he will handle it. If not, its his problem.
Overall I don't think it's a problem. If he will be better on the blue line than Nemec, Devils wil use him over Nemec. If they will overplay Doguie in different roles, than Doguie should be upset, his salary will be still there. If not - Devils will save some money, because young defebsemen will not produce some extra points on the PP2.
Overall Casey will be locked after sign ELC. Do im not really care what kind of role he will play. We will see. He is good at moving the puck from the boards to the slot, so in winger position he could be better than some of our players - it could save two defensemen in the unit. And we should both forget that Toffoli isn't here forever. Even for the next year we Bratt, Jack, Luke, Timo, and Nico as a lock for pp role. Dougie and Holtz - it is still 7 players for 10 spots. If Devils are good enough and Devils defensemen are good enough, they can use Holtz on the Left in shooting position, Dougie and Nemec on the blue line, Nico as a bumper and Casey on the right wing for Bratt role. Or some other rosters if they will be good enough and deserve it on the ice. Again - couple of millions to save the money from the beggining on the Nemec deal wouldn't hurt. If its a problem, than trade Casey for huge compensation and give Nemec the role he wants. He is better and much more important for this organisation even if he will be little worser as PP qb and they don't see how to use them all and its a problem in the same time for players and their egos and future deals. Or don't ask then until UFA because who cares.

i agree. makar, heiskanen and pettersson all suck. habs fan will agree if we say suzuki is the second best player from the '17 draft.
Outside from Montreal Patheics fans, it would be interesting for Nemec to compete for the top player of the draft. One or both Slaf and Wright will handle it after time. Even if its harder for Slaf because of... you know.. his team. And some other players look good. Im not worry about Nemec, he looks great for the second pick. But even with overhype around Hutson, he deserved big part of it, and Casey looks amazing. Draft doesn't look weak at all, like it was illustrated in media. As for defensemen generation, it looks astronomical.
Can we have new tradition to save our second round picks and use them for players like Casey and Hameenaho regularly?

It's harder for Slaf because of how he himself looks.
