I don’t even think the Devils factor is all that important here. It’s the fact that he’s already way too good for the NCAA. I’m struggling to think of a guy who was nearly this good who stuck around the 4 years. Fox would’ve but that was also a special circumstance where he was a whiny baby who would only play for one team.

Honestly, all things equal, if I was Casey I’d probably prefer to play for another team. Hamilton, Nemec, Marino is just insane depth to try to compete with. But there’s no way that’s enough of a concern to wait two additional years to sign an ELC.

Honestly, all things equal, if I was Casey I’d probably prefer to play for another team. Hamilton, Nemec, Marino is just insane depth to try to compete with. But there’s no way that’s enough of a concern to wait two additional years to sign an ELC.

Agreed. You’re not going to risk injury and delay your career because the team you’re going to has good depth at your position.

At worst, you force a trade to another team and then sign there, but either way you want to sign and start getting paid.

Marino isn't here forever. Even as a third pair defenseman, you can achive more ice time and money. Ask Sergachyov.
