Top goalies have way more often been 6’2” or taller than they have been 6’1” or shorter. He’s on the smaller size of average. The median starter height is 6’2” and the average height is 6’3”. The shortest starter last season was 6’0”.
Welp, we have a 6'6" goalie in the system.

IDK I don't care about a goalie's height, I care more about how well they stop pucks, personally.

Sure, but there's a difference between drafting goalies in the 3rd round or later and taking two guys in the first two rounds.
So far both playing pretty good and possible Augustine is the best second round player we have. Actually I was hoping we get him in the second round, didn't like others, but what am I know.
Nobody talks about his teammate Red Savage, but guy so far has not bad point per game season, could be good for our bottom 6

We have a very crowded bottom 6 but I agree Red Savage could very well be in the mix.

Earlier mentioned about Cossa and drafting so close too him (2 years), I don't really think it's lack of faith in him. From what I have seen in the past 6-8 years the DRW's tend to draft pretty consistently a goalie every two years. I'm rooting for both of them. Nothing against either of them.

Bit of thread drift, but he's now tied for 2nd on the team with 20 pts in 20 games. Potential to be a middle six type player, we'll see if the Wings decide to give him an ELC this summer, he's UFA after next summer if he doesn't sign. (3rd year in college)

Augustine looks like a keeper, for sure.

I was only able to watch the USA vs SWE gold medal game, so I can't speak for how Team USA's defense looked against any other opponent... but I did feel he did a damn good job handling the shots he did face.

Osgood 5'10", Hasek 6", Roy and Brodeur 6'2", Augustine 6'1" , one more inch to go

He looked really sharp against Finland and Sweden. A lot needs to be attributed to US defense thogh.
Earlier in this thread here is what Pavel Buchnevich had to say about this US defensive group:

His NTDP age group was the worst defensive core I’ve seen since I’ve been following the NTDP closely since like the 2000 age group.
Now the US had tons of firepower, but defense was not their calling card. So I think Augustine deserves a bit more credit than what you are giving him.

They didn't have Werenski or MacAvoy this time but their one on one play at D was excellent over the last two games. That maybe in part due to barely noticeable Finnish and Swedish offense but still US defense was really good.

People here mock Kenny for being a size queen and picking Raz, but not Stevie for picking Cossa.

Reach means nothing without the reflexes and coordination.
Smaller guys needs to work harder to get same results . Augustine is smaller than Cossa , but he's not small, most importantly he reads game very good and his positioning is excellent, I don't know in our prospects pool who should be ahead Cossa or Augustine

I don't think Steve picked cossa because of size. He picked him because he had all the tools to be a really good NHL goalie. He just hasn't put it together unfortunately. Kenny just picked lots of tall players seemingly at random. And he also missed out on a ton of top end NHL players for no reason.

I was frothing at the mouth when we picked Cossa instead of Wallstedt. A lot of Cossa's scouting reports were basically "suspect technique and poor positioning, but he's huge". So of course we draft him and he's never come close to matching his draft year performance (which has a big asterisk due to COVID and the Oil Kings not having to play any good teams).

If not for that COVID year Cossa would've likely been a third-rounder.

And not one of them is on the team. Keep drafting goalies until you get the one you need. You can't just draft cossa and not draft another goalie for 3-4 years. You can't put all your eggs in one basket.

It's not like wallstedt has been much better
