This is wildly inaccurate. We have no good goalies in our pipeline because the college ones all keep leaving and signing elsewhere. Cossa's 2023 has been very solid as he adjusts to the pro game.

My only issue with this pick is I have no faith in us retaining him.

Petruzelli and Gylander leaving tells me we don't commit to our college goalie prospects enough. Losing both of them were unforced errors.
If I am a goalie and I am looking at this current and future roster I'm getting the hell out as well.

We got our Nedeljkovic replacement!

Seriously though, goalie depth in this organization is non-existent after Cossa. Detroit needed another guy in the pipeline and this kid seems to have some promise. The pick says absolutely nothing about Cossa or what Detroit thinks of Cossa.

I tried to warn you guys that Yzerman would be spending more decent assets on goaltending. His time in Tampa was filled with him trying to shore up the position.

With the goalie cabinets completely bare after Cossa, not surprising he's adding competition to the pool.

I don't know if it's that, but Augustine isn't really any better. Look at the graphic. The kid gives up a lot of high shots, and it's not due to his size. It's his technique that's the problem. He's the opposite of fundamentally sound. The kid does a lot of scrambling.
Jonathan quick was 6'1'' and played the same type of style......never know

He's been fine. GR had a few too many goalies and he had to play down in Toledo this year. Played well for them.

I like this pick. Good to invest a higher pick in a goalie every few years.
Especially when goalies are a huge need for some teams. Yzerman can flip Cossa or him depending on development for nice assets. Yzerman is in for the long haul and many on here fail to realize that.

I don't remember Quick as a prospect, but I'll say this...

One game when I was watching Augustine he was pushing off to go from post to post on a save (that he should have been square to the shooter for to PREVENT the post to post shift) slid completely out of net and left it wide open. It was a laughable junior moment. I just hope it's not a sign of getting our Thomas McCollum 2.0.

I haven’t been following Cossa much lately. He starting to look not so great?

He had a good year in the ECHL. He was up and down with GR, which had to be tough. When he settled into Toledo he had a real solid hot streak (won goalie of the month). A long way away, but making progress.

Here’s a snippet from the EP draft guide.

Very fast player moving side to side. Scrambles a bit, doesn’t track pucks from the blueline very well, and gives up a lot high.

And truth be told - I like Ned - hope he signs on for a few extra seasons.

I mean Yzerman has made a lot of good moves but it's almost 5 years now. We have no excuses at this point. We have to at least start making the playoffs...

I just meant that if this kid passes Cossa in a few years it means we're likely still a nonfactor which would not be good.

I personally believe in Cossa

Myself as well. I just want some meat on the bone in terms of goal scoring. Looking at this roster we are going to have to win a lot of low scoring games and our D and goaltending isn't ready at all for this.

I have not seen this super scrambly/squirrely goalie you describe when I’ve watched Augustine, but I haven’t seen a ton of him.

-Defense is looking really good, bolstered by European scouting and acquiring Wallman.
-Forwards are looking super dicey. We'll get a long look at Kasper this season.
-Goaltending looking super dicey. Cossa is trending nicely after a season in the ECHL.

Thats what I think. He is drafting players for the purpose of future trades. Goaltenders, and RHD will always be valuable. Big stay at home defensemen are always sought after at the trade deadline.

Players that put up points are the best trade chips

Hronek and Bert got us first rounders for a reason
