I know scoring is as well, but that was addressed in a big way yesterday (or little way, if you're into small player jokes).
I was thinking about this last night. It had been speculated that there was a deal in place for ADB since around the time of the draft. I wonder if that affected the draft strategy in any way knowing they had a top line goal scorer coming in (danielson over benson, defenceman and a goalie with 4 out if the first 5 picks, only 4 forwards out of 11 picks, etc)

They have the first goalie picked in 2 recent drafts, I imagine theyre closer to first than 10th

Augustine was the 3rd goalie drafted this year. Gajan and Hrabal went before him.

Augustine really looked good in 3v3 tournament. He looked quick, and always in position.

I have no idea why I said that lol.

I remmeber seeing him as the potential first goalie on some lists but I knew that 6'7 monster went before him this year

@Frk It

Would you have wanted augustine now that you may or may not have saw him in the scrimmage tourny over Hrabel? I thought I saw somewhere that you liked Hrable, why I ask.

Honestly I wasn’t that big of a Hrabal guy. Personally I don’t think I would have taken any of these goalies in the top 50 of this draft class. But I do like Augustine as a player and he was probably my favorite pick in the 2nd round that we made.

I would have probably drafted 2 forwards and then tried to trade back and draft someone like Fowler or Clara personally. Fowler was my favorite goalie prospect in this draft.

I could see Hrabal vs Augustine going either way.

I don't know. MSU has nearly all there D corp coming back with a couple decent new freshmen. They did have the 2nd worst GA in the B1g last year but they have a bit more talent this year.
Key phrase

I hope he does well. But I’ll be rooting against him in…. certain games :naughty:

MSU is finally landing better talent. I am curious to see him there for a few years.

The transfer portal/rules have really helped development, allowing players to move without taking a year off. I haven't seen it translating yet, but I think it works in the long run for each the team and players.

I was a little ticked at this pick at first. I liked Bjarnsson more. After reading all the comments here I think Steve and company made another great pick

Isn't the NTDP basically an all star team?
Yes, but comparatively to their competition, they are usually a good deal younger, so what advantage they have in skill and skating, they typically lose in size, physicality, grit, and two-way play.

I don't think it's a stretch to have MSU vault Blowhio State and Notre Lame and their anemic offense to finish 3rd in the B1g this season. I'll be more curious to see if Augustine seizes the reigns since there is not a established netminder this year. St. Cyr lived in the crease last year.

I liked the Danielson pick. Didn’t love but understood ASP. This is just bad. Undersized goalies shouldn’t be targeted in the first half of the second round.
Shesterkin, Holtby, Lundqvist all 6'1". Saros 5'11". Bobrovsky and Fleury 6'2". At 6'1" the kid is anything but undersized.

Top goalies have way more often been 6’2” or taller than they have been 6’1” or shorter. He’s on the smaller size of average. The median starter height is 6’2” and the average height is 6’3”. The shortest starter last season was 6’0”.

Well I'd wager they drafted Augustine in part because they aren't sure about Cossa and wanted to have another top level prospect in the pipeline. Cossa has all the size you could want, but he struggled in the A last year.

6'1" is anything but undersized for a goalie, I really didn't like how one of the primary things the Holland regime focused on was size. They would have never drafted Quinn Hughes despite the fact he played in their backyard and clearly had absurd amounts of skill.

Size isn't the be all and end all and Augustine's size will never be an issue.

Wings need to draft a goalie every draft, even if it's a late round flyer. Goalies are a crapshoot, gotta roll the dice more often.
