I'm really confused by our power plays. We finally have Laf on pp1 but we only saw him on the right wall once, his first time on pp1, and he had a decent scoring chance. Ever since then he's a static bumper that never gets used and now panarin is on the right point. We also for some reason have not had lundkvist on the left point on pp2 since Laf got promoted. None of those things make sense to me.

Shesty was great tonight. But the troll job by Vally on Hank before the 3rd period was almost as good.

Miller was fantastic.

Zib, Kreider both looked great.

Panarin still isn't where he normally is.

Foxy was mostly his solid self.

Reaves was one of the most effective forwards.

For a forward who needs to be all about D and being responsible McKegg sure has issues getting pucks deep.

Trouba isn't perfect, but I appreciate his play.

I will say that you just cannot defend the best offensive players in the league unless you have all 5 guys in the box. You just need more sticks, more bodies, more everything to defend. Far too many one on one situations and far too much space. Shesty was something. But we need to be better in our own zone and the neutral zone.
What was the troll job?

Igor tonight:

"You know you can call me if you need someone.
I'll pick up the pieces if you come undone."

The shesty haters have gone back into their turtle shells suddenly. Also, just another disgraceful game by the team in front of him btw. Can’t be like the Henrik era again. I can’t take another goalie of that caliber with loser in front of him

Shesterkin was brilliant of course, but Trouba-Miller was really good against a stacked and highly energized team. Once Lindgren finds his game, this is a solid top 4. Anyone else enjoying Reaves and the 4th line as much as I am?

I liked the look of Panarin being lined up next to Mika last night. Under a coach like Gallant and the type of depth players we have right now, it makes more sense. We can't truly be a Gallant type of team if we have Mika's line and then Panarin's line slowing down the pace as much as it does. Not saying that they must play together, but it changes the outlook of the team in a positive way -- in games we cannot dominate.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this:
Panarin-Ziba-Kakko
Laf-Strome-Goodrow
Kreider-Chytil-Blais
Hunt-Rooney-Reeves

Trouba continues to be undervalued. He was our best player aside from Igor tonight despite Zib being my favorite player. Made countless elite defensive plays including a game saving play in OT yet barely any mentions of him in this thread
I was gonna say this. You can bet your bottom dollar if we lost on that play in OT, the trouba haters would have been up in arms.
I’m not even saying I like him on 3 on 3 situations. But Geez.
Shesty showing why he’s at the top of the tier with his elite net minding to start the season.
this is something Toronto never fixed or they’d probably have a cup by now, man their Fwds are dangerous.
We have a new coach and a lot of new players. Of course it’s going to take some time for this team to gel. Winning games like this, when it wasn’t a pretty game is something we’re were incapable of doing last season. it’s going to pay dividends when it comes to getting a playoff spot.
This is the year shesty puts The” Who’s better, shesty/sorkin convo” to bed imo. He looks razor sharp to start the season

panarin Zibby could be a dangerous combo. But if Gallant does that, LaF better start producing like a beast.
Plus, we don’t know how strome would do away from panarin for more then a 10 or so game sample size.
We still have some tweaking to do.
We need to replace Geo with a reliable and hopefully cheaper back up.
Hopefully start grooming Barron for his 3C future role
Hopefully chytil can step up, or he much like strome may not be long for the rangers.

Leafs won 76% of the faceoffs????
Our faceoffs are grotesque. I know Gallant has made it a priority to work on, but this has to get fixed or it will really burn us in the future. Team still has some tweaking to do.
Hopefully Barron can be a solid face off guy when he takes over 3C duties for good.
Chytil still stinks at them....
As does strome...
Fixing the faceoffs and Jettisoning Georgiev for a solid reliable back up, whose most likely cheaper are job 1 and 2 if I’m GM/coach

Welcome to the club.

If I'm being honest the Rangers didn't look great today and from what it sounds like didn't look great the first three games (I only saw a little of the Stars game). That said the 11-12 Rangers started mediocre (remember that Vancouver game it was like today's game), the 13-14 Rangers started horribly, and the 14-15 Rangers were a .500 team in December. I like football more, but it's a 17 game season, we're privileged that this sport is 82 and allows for slow starts.
Good teams find ways to win. Bad teams find ways to lose.

Rangers lost most one-goal games last season (some of which they dominated) and have just won two in a row this week.

You are what your record says you are. And goal tending is the most important position for a reason.

I agree with the latter, but it contributes to the former being an illusion for some teams. Let's hope this isn't one of those teams in the long run.
