This is the Shesterkin we expected last year he never really came close to this level for whatever reason. This is how he played in the K this is how he Obliterated the AHL

this is him in his rhythm. The save he makes in OT on matthews on the cross the slot pass where he has to make two pushes across with traffic is almost impossible. Just ridiculous focus
Hope we ride the hot streak. No need to sit him until he actually falters or somehow admits being tired/hurt.

Not so hot take but Shesty is the 3rd best goalie in the league and is significantly better than Lundqvist was through 50 NHL games

I had my Igor cards displayed on my desk while I worked today, usually that's bad luck but Shesty said f*** that shit. best goaltending performance since Hank in Dallas like 9 years ago

Lundqvist in the entire 2015 series against Washington, 12 GA in 7 games and only gave up more than 2 goals once (Game 6 nursing a 4-1 lead in the third where he got peppered with like 30 SOG to close it out).

Georgiev probably gets that afternoon game

there are only 2 other teams that have played 4 games thus far. And only one other team (Toronto) that has played 4 in 6 nights.

One is Seattle they played 4 games in 7 days and just got waxed in Philly.

the other is Toronto and three of those 4 games were at home.

we played 4 in 6 with 3 being on the road. Just brutal way to start the year.
4 games in 6 nights for us.

In what way is he better if you don’t mind my asking.

His poise is through the roof and he is far more athletic and is not prone to the horrendous back breaking stinker Lundqvist was that he didn't get under control until like year 4. Also early Lundqvist was a slow starter and had a lot cold streaks in NOV-JAN that took him some to snap out of.

But goaltending as a whole right now is leaps and bounds better than it was in the mid 2000's.

"I would've started Georgie tonight, but that's just me."

Don't forget the back to back shutouts vs Washington in 2013 games 6 and 7.

I don't think we need to compare Shesterkin to early Lundqvist though, the game has changed a lot since then, Hank was godly compared to his peers basically from day one. Shesterkin is the real deal and we're very lucky to have him. Going essentially from Mike Richter to Henrik Lundqvist to Shesterkin is some serious luck.

Shesty was great tonight. But the troll job by Vally on Hank before the 3rd period was almost as good.

Miller was fantastic.

Zib, Kreider both looked great.

Panarin still isn't where he normally is.

Foxy was mostly his solid self.

Reaves was one of the most effective forwards.

For a forward who needs to be all about D and being responsible McKegg sure has issues getting pucks deep.

Trouba isn't perfect, but I appreciate his play.

I will say that you just cannot defend the best offensive players in the league unless you have all 5 guys in the box. You just need more sticks, more bodies, more everything to defend. Far too many one on one situations and far too much space. Shesty was something. But we need to be better in our own zone and the neutral zone.

@Machinehead or other analytics gurus, curious with Hunt's and Reaves' advanced stats. They and Rooney got the least TOI but I think Hunt was especially good in the numbers.

And he’s gonna cost a fortune in a few years haha
It's really good to look back at the thread when he got his contract this summer and look at everybody criticizing how much he got. What a joke. This franchise is going to go in the direction that he helps steer it over the next few years

lol that end of Game 6 was most of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, the entire last 10 minutes were spent in our zone
