they're going to do it, you just need to pick your poison for which game they do

Start Georgiev against Ottawa a bit of a weaker team and non-divisional. Can't run Shesty into the ground, his durability has been questionable so need to get him into a groove while still managing his playing time.
Yea, Geo is def getting a game. Hopefully this will be one he’s ready for and actually looks good, as a opposed to one where he gives up a goal and it’s all down hill from there. Those type of bad goalie starts really just suck all the momentum out of the team and kills the morale.
I trust Kinkaid far more at this point to give us a solid start and at least a chance to win the hockey game.
Even though the sens are still very young, they have enough talented guys to light Geo up like a Christmas tree.
Having a dependable back up like a Rannta or a Talbot is something this team needs back. Hopefully Geo can get his game into gear. For what he’s getting paid, he should give the team a chance to win every time he gets a start

On a serious side note... What happened to Panarin's leg kick? did the org shut it down?

The reason we won that game was because of our bottom 6.. In the past we would be toilet paper soft and not wear down a a team, they would wear us down.. I saw more hitting the 1st 5 games than in the last 10 seasons.. just imagine if we could get P, Z, C S, and Miller to make two decent hits a gam.

certainly a huge part of it. I know many on here don’t like the more traditional 3rd/4th line banger/cycle/physical hockey and would rather have a 3rd line with more skill, but in close games especially, when you have 2 lines that can get the puck deep and cycle and wear the other team down, as well as beat on them physically, it pays dividends later in the game.
Once these lines got the puck deep and slowed the leafs down a bit, it gave the rangers a chance to get back into the game. Having this, plus addition that they can score and capitalize on mistakes is huge, especially in the playoffs.
This is the islanders bread and butter. Their top 2 lines have skill no doubt. But without Pageau/Cizikas leading the charge, they’d be a lot less effective. They’re bottom 6 does a very good job at everything above, and are also currently better at Face offs which makes them even harder to play against.

Reaves obviously, but Blais crushes people in normal hitting situations. Contributes to his lack of durability in the Callahan mold, but when you expect just a normal follow-through kind of hit, he crushes the guy. Hunt hits pretty hard too. I don't think Laf and Kakko are going to work out as the 3rd cog on the top two lines and I expect Gallant will eventually try the Kid Line again with Chytil. Hate to break up Hunt and Reaves but I can imagine Gallant trying for lines that blend skill with bang.

Don’t forget big bad Barron. He’s going to likely be our 3C here for a long time.
They’ve been grooming him for center duty for the better part of a year n a half 2 years since the full time switch.
Rooney could be replaced by Richards or a UFA/Trade as well he might price himself out of here, or they feel they need an upgrade

Last few years we lose these games. We could score but not defend. Not play in tight games. I have said for years id sacrifice offensive skill for a better two way effort. Well with Strome out of the lineup and gallant leaning more on some muckers we just won two really tough road games. Yes last night was about Shesterkin but there was significant pushback in that third period. I’d argue we should have won that game in that period with the chances we had.

these are the games we’re going to have to win come playoff time. We aren’t beating anyone 5-4 at that point. It’s going to be like that Montreal game or parts of the game last night.

Bad directing (or at least not anticipating). I thought the same thing.

But if they had their cams going into EVS they could've slipped his reaction back going to break or something even if it was on the wide... the other cam may have been re-framing to the 2-shot right

I assume the cameraman had no idea it would be a dig on Hank.

I don't think Hunt has enough skill to be a third-liner but can wishfully think him with Barron anchoring a line with a bit of skill and a lot of forecheck pressure mucking it up inthe dirty areas.

We’re winning but being honest it is absolutely horrible hockey from an entertainment standpoint lol

I never worked for MSG (except on the road once) so not sure exactly how they do it but my guess is that the wide shot is a small jib, then they have a cam on each side (can see this by the shots they use).

Since cam1 was on a single of Valley... (cam2 is the wide) and they used the 2-shot right over valley's shoulder, I assume that's where that cam (cam3) was heading, or maybe to a single of Hank looking at Valley... the director would've called that repo either way.

If it were me, knowing that you have 2 analysts on your set, both former goalies (one of whom is a legend, about to have his # retired, 1st ballot Hall Of Famer, etc) and Shesty had the game he had...

I would've put cam1 & 3 next to each other and used more 2 shots and swung single to single... depending on which analyst was speaking.

But I digress.

Leafs' skill guys >>> our skill guys last night. If not for Shesty, it would not have been a tight game at all, because their skill guys got robbed while our skill guys had more butterfingers than the corner bodega. We did create chances but muffed them most of the time.

Without Shesterkin this game is 7-1, not a lot has changed really, we got doubled in shots and outplayed all night. The Zibanejad goal should have been a save by Campbell.

Yea me either.
Hunt is a 4th/extra fwd kind of guy.
I see the foundation of our 3rd line starting next year, possibly earlier as
Goodrow-Barron-???
The ??? Filled eventually by Cuylle/Berard hopefully. Same hard nosed style.
Goodrow did his best work with Tampa as a 3LW. I’d like to keep him there if Kreids is ok on the right.

To look at the past two games as a template for how this team needs to play to be successful is a bit unwise. We won both games because the goaltender was the difference maker. The game against Dallas was a game to emulate, not the last two. The idea that games aren't won 5-4, or other high scoring games in the playoffs is a silly notion as well. To win a cup you need to win all sorts of games, whether it's high scoring, low scoring, trading chances or a defensive stalemate.
