That’s crazy. Two years ago he was one of the best young d-men in the league who could QB a powerplay like a beast and play 20+ minutes a game. Funny how quick things can change.

He's hasn't been a top pairing Dman for years and he's been complete garbage in the D-zone for quite some time now..
It's not even debatable..

I think the narrative will always be something new with Shattenkirk. He’s just not a 3 zone player. He’s a 1 zone player. He’s only effective in the offensive zone. Running the point. He’s not good carrying the puck or breaking out like a more traditional offensive defenseman. And we know he can’t defend.

This year is a work in progress. Quinn and staff have to figure out what they got and it might take a while. There are people who want us both to win a lot and to tank at the same time. When the one thing is happening they'll complain about the other. The Rangers IMO would rather win a lot but really they have a bunch of 2nd/3rd liners and a bunch of 2nd/3rd pairing D and a bunch of kids and that's usually not enough for a team to be more than mediocre. The Rangers are striving for mediocrity this year--anything better than that would be a terrific season.....but sooner or later (it might be November, December or January) they should start working better as a team.

So I would say to at least some of the people here---have some patience.

I remember the Shattenkirk hype on this forum before we signed him - I tried to warned about it and his weaknesses when Pens won the cup back to back two years ago and Kevin struggled in the playoffs.
But he is a much better offensive defender - he just need time to recover.

Nobody wants to to admit this...but I'll say it....we weren't that much better defensively the prior games either...Henrik been spectacular....georgiev was terrible...hence why the scores in the first 2 were closer than they were...we've given up a metric ton of quality chances...

They gave up 10 High Danger chances vs Nashville. Considering the talent gap and Staal, that isn't too bad.

5 vs Buffalo, which is excellent but again its Buffalo.

They gave up 16 tonight. This was a clear step down from the previous 2 games.

After watching the Nashville game a 2nd time I came away with the impression that they weren't as good as I thought they were when I watched live. They deserved to win against Buffalo and tonight's game was a well deserved loss.

The defense was supposed to suck though but that seems to be a league wide thing right now, so many games where both teams are scoring 5+ goals.

We keep making weird decisions with offensive Dmen.

We trade for DeAngelo, but don't play him.

We sign one dimensional Shattenkirk, our scouts did a great job.

We sign over the hill Boyle instead of Stralman.

We trade for Yandle, but choose not to re-sign him.

Rushed Del Zotto and did not develop him correctly.

Traded a lot for Erixon and forgot to do proper scouting on him.

failed to develop Sanguinetti.

Well...that was some road trip, beaten by Buffalo  and Carolina.

And Quinn better get ready for a 4 game losing streak as the nasty sharks will invade the Garden, with Erik Karlsson and all. I have no idea how the Rangers can survive this.

Stralman isn’t an offensive guy. And was a bottom pair guy until his last yr here. And AV still put him in the 2nd pair with staal. Slats sought to keep the top pair(mcdonagh-girardi) together and staal was viewed as the better of the 2nd pair guys.

Boyle was seen as a cheap fill in. And part of bringing the Boyle msl Richards. Trio to try fix our PP.

Yande was an attempt to fill out the defense and win a cup. We never had the $$ to resign him. Considering how he’s worked out in Florida I think we would’ve regretted it. AV was shit with his usage tho.

ADA was a quality prospect and AV wanted to get the Vets going last year despite ADA being a top 6 guy coming out of camp and having solid chemistry with Mcd. AV was shit with his usage too. This year he earned a top 6 spot but Shattenkirk(who probably wasn’t ready) is a vet with a history with the coach and a fat deal. Similar player type and limited spots. ADA was excellent again tonight. I expect him to continue playing.

Shattenkirk was a rangers fan growing up and wanted to play for his favorite team. Despite the rebuild and everything Shattenkirk wanted to take a “hometown” deal. He grew up a rangers fan and probably hated all the old vets with the fat contracts who never live up to it. And now he’s becoming one of them. Shattenkirk was lucky in the sense that he’s ufa class was bone dry and he had sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair in St. Louis.

Del zotto. You can only do so much for a guy. At some point it’s on him to put in the work and earn it. This is 2018 professional sports, if you’re not entirely into it you won’t grow.

We can do this all day. Good Offensive dmen are rare and valuable. Hence why teams continue to take shots at getting one. We’re not the only team that does this. ADA might be the future PPQB and OFD for this team. Time will tell.

Are you sure about this? Something, something, shot suppression.

Yandle's stats with Panthers look pretty good to me. He is like a bigger, more physical, more gritty and more mobile version of Shattenkirk.

Shattenkirk in 3 games has been lost defensively and underwhelming offensively. He's been in this league long enough that he'll find a way to play .5PPG offensive hockey again and if he's lucky, be on a pairing that is stable defensively.

Defiling Tim Erixon's grave and digging up his fossilized remains is really putting a damper on this 0-3-0 start.

I don't know what JT Miller did in the locker room, but I think trading him was a huge mistake. Trading a complete player like that who has speed, can play multiple positions, plays physical, can play PK and PP, good on faceoffs, scores over 50 points, has great puck control and has size, speed, agility, and stickhandling to hang on to the puck for a very long time, has excellent shot and playmaking ability.

Shattenkirk even in the offensive zone on the PP is so stationary like a sloth or something. You can't be a threat on the PP if you just stand there, you have to skate to get better angle shots/passes.

Don't listen to him.

Shattenirk is off to a bad start, yes, but he could have 192 points and be +300 and the poster you're responding to would still bash him.

He just hates Shattenkirk.

New lines

K-Z-B
Chytil-Hayes-Fast
Spooner-Howden-Zuccarello
Vesey-Namestnikov

Skjei-Shattenkirk
Smith-Pionk
Claesson-DeAngelo
McQuaid as a 7th D only for PK duty.

These aren’t gonna happen, especially 18 in the pressbox, but this is what I’d send out there next game.

Staal will never sit. Too much loyalty for their own good has been the defining trait of the Gorton/Sather era.

I have a feeling after Chytil started weeping at the bench this coach will send him down to AHL and call up Andersson or Meskanen.

Also our Dmen seem to be roaming around in the defensive zone too much instead of standing and covering the front of their net. let our the forwards chase the puck carriers in the defensive zone instead of Dmen.

Buch was weeping too in the 2nd. game - it won`t go too many games before the media notice such things. '
Anyway I hope that Chytil is okey he was hit hard - a dangerous high hit in Buffalo.

Chytil was also weeping this game after he jumped on the ice and caused too many men on the ice penalty.
