Another hot take..I think pionk looks like an ahl defenseman....
MSG showed the Quinn press conference after the game. Maloney asked him a series of questions. Colin Stephenson of Newsday asked a few questions. Quinn didn’t seem too upset. Just a little frustrated. He knows the plan here.
Maloney is funny. He called Vesey Jimmy Hayes after the 2nd period interview of Vesey. Jimmy has come to play this season. He looks like the player NHL scouts projected him to be coming out of Harvard. I hope someone doesn’t take him out playing that aggravating game.
Lias Andersson has some of that annoying attitude. The Laval players wanted to beat him up yesterday in the 2nd period. McCarron wanted a piece of him yesterday.

Unfortunately, he is going to join other Rangers goalies as among the greatest to play without ever winning it, easily one of the worst lists to be on in hockey.

I kind of split the difference on Pionk.
I think he's a probably longer-term NHL defenseman. I just think he's probably a third pairing guy on a good team.
Pionk has been awful. Staal has been awful but Pionk has been just as bad imo. Zero reason for ADA to be sitting for this kid. Zero reason for Shattenkirk to be sitting for him either. People expecting shattenkirk to look amazing after not playing a game for almost 10 months need to put the video games away for a bit.

Jimothy almost cracked up but held it in.
At one point in the game, Quinn's face was as red as the cushioned seats behind him.

Not playing 10 months stops a defenseman from doing a fundamental defenseman thing of tying up your man's stick in front the net instead of standing next to him like you're his best man at his wedding?

Uhhh When you haven’t played in that long absolutely. It’s still a battle. Still have to catch up to the speed of what’s going on around you. And let’s not pretend he’s the only one that didn’t pick up sticks last night. 4 of the goals were slam dunks right in front of our net from not picking up sticks.

I think he shows flashes but when he presses and tries to do to much, he gets caught. He needs to keep his game simple

I can not even state how much I believe this to be the case. He's the best defenseman this team has at creating offense consistently

Agree that everyone was Swiss cheese last night. Shatty was soft on that goal though, recovering or not.
I don't post often around here anymore, but I still come in read fairly regularly. This is on point, and honestly it is kind of nice going into a season where these are the expectations.

Pionk needs a stable NHL caliber partner to learn from. Unfortunately we don't really have any of those. ADA seems to need less babysitting and should be in the lineup

Pionk can be a serviceable NHL defenseman. A finesse type. Needs to work on his positioning.
