Now this I can get on board with. Last time I brought this up I was crucified though
Because immediately it becomes about not picking high enough. People refuse to put any responsibility on those in charge of the team.

Guess what: we're not picking top 5 this June. If Gorton can't make due with it, we should see if somebody else can.

What smoke and mirrors? We are not a playoff team but we are also not bottom-3. We are bad but we are not bad enough. Watch us draft 7th or 8th.

Some people got super hyped that this team was so much better than expectations and playoff bound because they ran off a bunch of wins when they deserved to lose a most of them.

The last 4 or 5 before the b2b this weekend were better, but before that they were incredibly lucky. Im surprised they didnt find a way to undeservingly squeeze out at least one point this weekend.

I had them finishing 5-7, so 7 or 8th wouldn't be a surprise.

Admittedly, we kinda got boned in 2017.

Couldn't get the trade for Pettersson done and then Cody Glass was snatched from right in front of us.

The best center taken after Andersson might be Filip Chytil.

But we've had legit 1C's on the board.

With Staal+Pionk maybe yes

But no one should expect to pick top 5 unless you finish last basically. This team won't unless they underperform.
I would rather have this team grow and be well coached with what we already have in the pipeline and get better at center drafting. I do not believe we have a 1C in the organization right now.

That's the same old excuse.

Kuznetsov, Giroux, Kopitar, Barzal, Bergeron, Point, and Getzlaf were drafted in no man's land.
Agreed, it’s about our scouts doing a better job. The first round is usually set, we need some later picks to pan out. Another Hank or two

The number one thing we need to stop doing is burning high picks on goaltenders.

We have Georgiev and Shestyorkin. Hank isn't slowing down just yet. We need a goaltender like Staal needs to play more. We took Halverson when Brayden Point was on the board.

Oh yeah? Just like that? You know where you can get those players a lot easier than in the 7th round? At the top of the draft. Funny how it works out like that.

That Henrik pick was a once in a lifetime pick. We will never see anything like on the Rangers in our lifetime again.

Lot of teams passed on Point.

Missed all but the 3rd period of this game bc work
How were Chytil/Gettinger/Lias in the first two periods?

Do you really need a franchise center? You need a franchise player and that can be a winger. You can get the job done if you have good depth down the middle.
Who's the last Cup winner who didn't have a Hall of Fame center?

Crosby/Malkin, Toews(when he was good), Backstrom, Staal, Getzlaf, Zetterberg/Datskyuk, Kopitar, Bergeron - I'd say it doesn't hurt.

Agree, and I think they should keep him.
I’m right there with you. He’s looked fantastic and I want to keep him. I know it complicates things with all of our center prospects but we can deal with that later.

Could be JT Miller scernario, where some of them even though drafted as natural centers, look better at wing. Who knows.

That’s what I meant. A forward to pan out with a late pick like Hank did

Also, what's with this "well you don't really need X type of player" stuff? Why wouldn't you want to have a top player at every top position? The best teams all do. Why half-ass it?

How do we even know what bad enough is in this league right now? Last time I checked, the Rangers were six points from the last place in the Metro, with more games played than almost everyone else in the division. The only team right now that is firmly ensconced at the bottom in the league are the Kings. Teams like Montreal, Ottawa and Detroit and even the Islanders, that were supposed to be so much worse than the Rangers are in similar territory. Right now, one good winning streak put the Rangers at the top of the division. One extended losing streak can do the same in the other direction. And, when teams with more skill start showing up on the schedule, we can see the difference in the talent levels between them and the Rangers. One bad month and this team could easily be bottom five.
