I love the “it didn’t work for team X so it won’t work for us, even it’s worjed for team Y and Z to great success.” Argument.

You know what hasn’t worked for any team since the lockout started? Not doing that. Mediocrity. Why aren’t you saying that about those teams?
.
It's similar to ignoring the effect that 2 super teams (formed from the 2004-2008 drafts when the draft system worked differently and the league had a very different setup) have had on skewing these numbers.

But you're doing that sooooo...

The real problem: some people have no stomach. They want to have their cake and eat it too. They don’t want to get their hands dirty. Too bad.

This is some cringy shit.

I have facts and history on my side. You have guesses.
You have the 2004-2008 drafts on your side but don't let that fact stop you. Don't let every draft since 2009 or the finals appearances or wins of teams like Boston, LA, Detroit, NY, NJ, since the lockout get in the way of your narrative.

You can ignore the importance of finals appearances but just bc you don't understand the importance of that doesn't invalidate the argument.

The league changes.

Yeah because they have bad management.

Sorry you don’t want to watch bad hockey. Fjnd another team to watch. You can bounce around to teams that are in first place. That way you’d never have to do anything that isn’t easy.

I have watched this team for 50 years bud, in good years and bad. It is MY OPINION that you can build a stanley cup contender without a team being a bottom feeder and getting a top 5 pick. I guess that can't compete with your facts and obnoxiousness of your posts. I don't really care.

Ok well your opinion is completely wrong based on how the league has operated since the lockout.

The only importance to a finals appearance is if you win.

You keep waiting for the league to change. I’ll look to keep doing what’s been building all the championship teams since the lockout started.

Boston and LA both fit the narrative. Had top 5 draft picks leading up to their Cup runs.

Expand to final four teams. Tampa. Caps. Flyers. Hurricanes. Jets. On and on and on.

The importance of the players acquired under said picks varies. But there is a pretty well worn patten between conference finalists and a top 5 pick within ~5 years prior.

I have no f***ing idea how you would come to this conclusion after 50 years of watching the Rangers.

LA broke the mold. you don’t need the first OA since they got Doughty at number 2; therefore there is no need to pick under 24th???

Because you can absolutely build a contending team with multiple 1st round picks even though they may not be top 5, plus additional prospects, like they have done for 2 years now and will likely continue this year as well.

And the teams that have built that way recently and won a championship are who?
