Guys... no one expects this roster to compete. We’re going to end up with a top 10 pick. It won’t be great but if we get lucky we’ll draft good and have a team with great depth similar to the team that almost won the cup a few years back

Dude why do you keep harping on the negative and who we don't draft? You make it seem like this team has been a bottom feeder the last decade instead of only missing the playoffs twice since 2004. Get some perspective please.
I never said this team is a bottom feeder. If anything, a lot of teams would love to be us in certain ways. We're great at drafting NHL talent. We're great at getting more than what we paid for in trade acquisitions. We churn goalies out like a damn machine.

I'm talking about one aspect of running a hockey franchise, that history has proven to be crucial to winning championships. We suck at that aspect. I'd like us to improve it. That's all.

Those that saw this team as a bottom three are the ones proving to be poor in foresight.

The rebuild is already underway because management is doing a pretty good job compared to some other teams.

Tanking a season in the hopes of landing a #1 pick, when your chances are 1 in 4, at best, is idiotic.

Edmonton got a generational player and they are hapless.

There are no guarantees and who wants to watch a team with crap players and an idiot coach.

Quinn is the best coach they have had in quite some time, yet some here still whine incessantly about him.

Did you get to see the 1940 cup too?

Well "franchise" is sort of a subjective term. Based on his performance against his age cohort, Chytil''s trending towards being a top player in the league. Then throw in the likelihood that he and Kravtsov will be linemates and you increase his chances towards becoming a special player in the mold of a Backstrom or a Bergeron (I won't say Kopitar just yet because he's a Hart-caliber player).

I mean, did we see Doug Weight as a franchise center when he was a 3rd liner in 1992? Took a trade for it to happen but he certainly was one with Edmonton.

Franchise center ? Pls...

It’s true. The Rangers haven’t been a very satisfying franchise in terms of cups.
And I think many, even most, would be fine with tank, tank, cup.
But there is no “Tank” button. A team has to be incredibly poorly managed to come in last. It’s maybe harder to tank than to make the playoffs.
I mean, what are the better tank moves for the Rangers? Stick the hungry kids in Hartford? I think developing them is more important.
Trade the good young players like Zibanejad and Hayes and whomever else for picks? Maybe, but it’s not so easy. Need to get their value up first. Need other teams to make offers, too.
Don’t sign any vets like Namestnikov, McLeod, Smith. Fair point. But maybe they end up netting picks.
Bench Henrik? Good luck.
It’s easier said than done.

I disagree. The Penguins have shown a tank can be carefullly orchestrated.

Is that what it says in the Sports Almanac, Biff?
