Friedman was asked about the possibility of a trade happening with only the framework of the contract done but he seemed pretty confident Dallas is only gonna trade for an already extended Rantanen.

I look at the prospects, especially on D, and I wake up screaming. I think even as a top team you need to be able to pivot to your prospects when needed. Right now, the system looks like a nightmare choice from Storage Wars

The D would really hinge on Bichsel. If he can reach his potential, having Miro, Harley, Lindell and Bichsel would be a very, very solid blue line for a long time. If he doesn't, then we probably continue to struggle finding that 4th D.

If you get Rantanen, I would for sure be going out and still grabbing an Oleksiak/Murphy/Savard/Jokihaju/etc.

You get Rantanen for, potentially, something like $2M for the rest of the year you better make the most of it.

Push Dumba to the #8 and Bichsel to #7 in case he struggles in the post-season like a lot of rookies do. Great depth on both sides of the team.

Dumba would be kinda expensive to keep around as an 8th defenseman.

We have the space this season for it to be a non-issue, you don't want to go into the playoffs an injury away from Dumba getting playing time, or running 5D into the ground like last year.

Deal with moving the contract in the offseason if you can't today.

If they can’t make this trade work they would be stupid not to check in with Pittsburgh about Karllson. But I see them trading Robertson in offseason if they acquire Rants.
