Meh, if I was looking to sign what could be my final contract and I had already won The Cup, I'd be trying to maximize how much I took home as well, so I don't hate him for it, lol.
Yeah. I agree. At the same time he has yet to prove he's more than a byproduct of Nathan MacKinnon. He has two goals and six points in 13 games for the Canes. Rejecting all those deals is pretty risky. He's betting on himself to get going...because if he doesn't it might cost him money.

this byproduct of Mackinnon narrative is played out.
him not scoring in a system like Carolina, doesn't mean he's a product of Mack.

He has literally carried the Avs offensively when Mack has been injured.
And his underlying metrics are great in carolina

I think 12 mil from Dallas gets him to sign, probably hung up on details like bonuses and or trade protections.

He'll sign

I don't disagree. It's all in the context of the player Rantanen is and what he's been already offered this season. Nobody says he sucks without MacKinnon. At the same time he's been helped by MacKinnon and he's not currently producing and not helping his chances of landing a bigger deal than previously offered.

Would you offer him north of 8×13 based on his current play? I'm sure all teams would love to sign Rantanen as a free agent but if he doesn't get going then most if not all teams are gonna doubt he really is worth more than he was offered by the Avs, Stars and Canes.

Rantanen is betting on himself to get going but it's not without risk.

Depends on the team.
Chicago, yeah 8x13 isn't going to hurt them

If Rantanen is signed then that's a trade I make. If it's a rental, neither of them should be included.

Ya I don’t think either those players (maybe one) would be in a trade for a non-extended Rantanen.

If he’s signed, then yes I am making that deal as well.

Shapiro just said on the DLLS podcast emergency episode, that after making some phone calls, he gathered the realistic value going back is both Bourque and Stankoven.

No way, I don't believe that. Losing those two, combined with the horrendous farm system and lack of high picks the next few years...the cupboard will be empty for a long while. Win now is great, but that's a risky neutering when Jim likes to talk about leaving the team in good shape for the future.

$12.5x8 should be more than enough to play in Dallas.

Good city to live in it seems based on the amount of guys who stick around after retirement, no state income taxes, Finnish friends on the team for the foreseeable future, and an extra year of guaranteed money.

Unless Nashville or Seattle pony up the $14M, which even then you're still likely missing out on money without that extra year, I don't get the logic of going to FA and (most likely) getting payed less over the duration of the contract.

But this is why agents are professionals at their job, unless your Klingberg's agent thankfully.

if they make that trade, they have enough core pieces to fill out the roster that the cupboard doesn't need to be a concern for a while

Ok. Here is an update

Bourque is NOT part of the deal.
It'll be Stankoven if it gets done.
What are the other pieces involved?
Because i would trade Stank, painfully, for an unsigned Rantanen and see if you could sell him over the next couple months
